ABSTRACT

In the modern era, Railways has evolved as most efficient, safe and economic overland movers of passengers and heavy freight. Thus making it the most common mode for long distance transport and because of its excessive usage, it is necessary to keep a track on its performance and possible reasons for failures. In the following project, we have carried out a detailed dynamic analysis of the railway wagon which helps us in determining the weakest portion in a wagon assembly and hence measures can be taken to strengthen the same. An extensive study of railway wagons and its types has been done followed by selection of a passenger wagon on which further study has been performed. The selected coach has been modelled using Solidworks and its modal analysis has been carried out. Major modifications have been carried out during the analysis which majorly included the introduction of CASNUB bogie into the design for improvement in the suspension system of the model. Further, final dynamic analysis of the wagon has been carried out and study of the deformation and stress distribution over the wagon has been performed. Using this analysis we can find out the weakest portion of the wagon and use precautions to avoid the failure of design. Further these results can be used to reduce weight to tear ratio while maintaining a constant strength to achieve stability at higher speed.
