SCAS frontline staff engage with rotary clubs

Your local ambulance service is fully committed to engaging with staff and public members and also reaching out to all its local communities in order to spread the benefits of being a Foundation Trust member and improve the trusts services. Last year SCAS embarked on a successful programme of engagement/educational activities across its four counties in various organisations. Here Jack Workman, Ambulance technician, tells his experience at a rotary club in Oxfordshire. On the 10th of May myself and my colleague Kevin Proctor were kindly invited to the Rotary club of Banbury to do a presentation to about 70 of its members and talk about the Ambulance Service with emphasis on the frontline emergency service. With the offer of a lunch included (which is always a winner with the ambulance service!!) we greatly accepted their invitation. We attended with a variety of ambulance equipment which we displayed, and encouraged people to have a look at in order to get an idea of what pieces of emergency equipment we use on a daily basis. After lunch we were invited to start our presentation by the chair person. We were keen for people to get an idea of what is involved within the modern emergency ambulance service. We therefore explained about the different job roles, the drugs that we administer, the type of jobs we attend and what happens in the control room/ emergency operations centre when an ambulance is called. Following the presentation we allowed enough time before the end for questions, which were both interesting and positive. One guest stood up to tell us about a recent scenario in which he had high praise for the overall service he received. Ending on a positive note such as that, I would like to thank the Rotary club of Banbury for a very enjoyable and engaging event. Rotarian John Webb said about the event Altogether a very enlightening talk in a very short time span which provoked many questions that continued after the proceedings had been concluded. I proposed a vote of thanks to our speakers who were congratulated in the usual manner. SCAS would like to take this opportunity to also thank the following rotary clubs for inviting us along to one of their events:
