Joan of Arc

Joan, clad on silver armor from head to foot, rode to war on a horse. Men left their work to fight with her. Women prayed God would help her.

Joan led the attack on the forts. The French charged from time to time again. Fort after fort fell to the French. At last, only one fort was left.

The French army came to near the town of Orleans. Orleans was in a state of siege. The English were in forts all around town.

Joan was not badly wounded. Soon she led the army again. Town after town fell to the French. It was not long before the French were winning the war.

Charles was afraid that he would lose all France. He hoped Joan might help. So he agreed that Joan would lead the army.

The soldiers helped her. They took her to quiet place. One of the soldiers said, We cannot take the fort. We must retreat! But Joan cried, No, wait a while, let our flag touch the wall.

The English were surprised, when they saw Joan. What was this this? Had the French gone mad?

Joan was born in a small village of Orleans. She wanted to help her country, but she was only a young girl.
