Y.E.S.S. Education Seminar

Youth Enrichment and Senior Services hosted the first Education Seminar in Cantonese at China Garden, Winter Park on July 20. Pauline Ho gave an overview of American education system including FCAT, SAT, AP, IB, Magnet Schools and Bright Future Scholarship. She also shared some tips of choosing the right path for the children. In the seminar, Pauline emphasized the importance of knowing your childrens strength and weakness and encouraged the parents to participate actively at their childrens education process. This includes but not limited to attending parents open day, knowing the teachers and friends of your children and becoming the supporter and the cheerleader of your children . For most of the Asian immigrants, the American education and testing systems are quite different from the place they are from. The seminar provided a great opportunity for the parents to better understand the education system in the US. Pauline also introduced the parents two local nonprofit volunteer based organizations, YESS and R.E.A.C.H., which offer teenagers opportunities to volunteer, to lead and to serve.
