What BH Students Want in a Teacher

1. Utilize Skype style technology and communication capability with a willingness to connect with the world. 2. Teachers should not take situations too seriously and demonstrate a willingness to take risks and try new methodologies. 3. Good Communication Skills in both directions a. Teachers must put themselves in the shoes of students to remember what it was like to be there b. Good communication during interactions with students in the classroom c. Good communication during personal interactions with students. 4. Availability to connect with students 24/7 and invest in them whole-heartedly a. Personal relationships with students b. Realize that students are not robots, but people who need to be understood 5. Recognize that everyone learns differently a. Teachers should communicate with other teachers with open sharing of ideas 6. Students request that Teachers provide specific and feedback in a controlled manner. a. This feedback should include options and hints to assist their performance b. In the moment coach-like feedback desired frequent

The Human Element between Teacher and student is much stronger than a book or computer.

Students are not machines and Teachers do not need to behave like machines either.

Offer steps to help students and lead them through problems step by step.

10. Teachers need to present the information in many different formats and from various perspectives. 11. Learning of new information needs to be connected to human experiences. a. Make connections personally and intellectually b. Explain why the information needs to be learned 12. Teachers need to be open-minded and comfortable with many various personality types. 13. Teachers should be good listeners able to truly listen and hear their students. 14. Teachers must love teaching and be truly enthusiastic about teaching, as well as the students and the subjects they are teaching. 15. Teachers should embrace the passions of their students a. They need to find out what students are passionate about so that they can embrace and inspire those passions (even if they are not personally interested). b. Student passions should be understood and utilized to inspire creativity. 16. Create an interesting and inspiring environment in the classroom visually and make learning extend beyond the 4 walls of the room.
