Maimane has been elected as the DAs Premier candidate for Gauteng for the 2014 national elections. Mmusi Maimane was born and raised in Dobsonville, Soweto, near Johannesburg. He is currently a Deputy Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance and the DAs National Spokesperson. He has completed a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Theology and a Masters Degree in Public and Development Management from Wits University. Mmusi is married to Natalie and has two children - 2 years old Kgalaletso and 5 months old Kgosi. Before entering politics, Mmusi lectured at the GIBS business institute and managed his own consultancy firm consulting for a variety of large South African companies on diversity management, change management and generational differences. He also chaired a number of foundations involved in rural youth development and HIV and AIDS management. Mmusi made his entry into politics when he was nominated as the Democratic Alliance Mayoral Candidate in the City of Johannesburg during the 2011 local government elections. He was instrumental in increasing the DAs support levels from roughly 20% to 35% in Johannesburg during the 2011 elections. After the elections he was elected as the DAs Caucus Leader in Johannesburg leading the second largest DA Caucus in the country. Mmusi was subsequently elected as National Spokesperson for the Democratic Alliance later in 2011. He has served with distinction in this role successfully representing the DA on every major media platform. In November 2012, Mmusi was elected as one of three of the DAs three Deputy Federal Chairpersons at the DAs 2012 Federal Congress. He received the most votes of the nine candidates running for the positions. Mmusi speaks six languages -English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Setswana, Sephedi.
