SHUBERT-PRELIMS (JOURNALISM)

99 characters offstage to create one dramatic character onstage or as said by Henry Rollins, They were there hours before you building the stage, and they will be there hours after you leave tearing it down Who are those 99 characters? Who are they? They are none other than the crew members who work backstage but do not receive much appreciation from the audience. I would rather call it a BLACKSTAGE as the crew becomes so invisible once the drama goes on so smoothly and the spectators at the show only admire the actor/actress performing on stage. Like at the other theatres, Broadway backstage crew are responsible for things such as lighting, sound effects and stage setup for the productions put on in New York City. Though Broadway offstage crew represents a minuscule sector of those employed nationally in the theatre entertainment field, Broadway dedicates its success to all those offstage crew members on successful completion of 250 years. As per 2008 statistical analysis, Broadway budgets by the New York Innovative Theatre Foundation reports expenditures for stage management at approximately $510,000 annually.
