Starting from bulky mobiles phones which were as long and heavy as ones forearms, to ultra thin and techno savvy handsets, mobiles phones have covered a long way so far.
India is the second largest mobile handset market in the world after China and is poised to become an even larger market with unit shipment of INR 208.4 million in 2016 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.8 per cent from 2010 to 2016.
Mobile device sales in India are estimated to touch 231 million units in 2013, a rise of 8.5 per cent over the 213 million units sold so far this year. The mobile handset market is expected to show steady growth through 2015, when end-user sales would surpass 322 million units. With 150 manufacturers selling devices, the Indian mobile market is very competitive. India, accounting for approximately 12 per cent of worldwide sales, is an important market for device manufacturers. And 85 million imports.
