Samantha Tapia Ms. Bell English 4/Period 2 03 august 2013 The Incredible Hulk HISTORY OF COMIC Of all the Marvel characters, The Hulk has been one of the most interesting. In 1962 Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the creator of The Incredible Hulk comic book. The book lasted six issues and had the first appearance of the Grey Hulk. In 1964 Giant Man was starring in a comic book called Tales to Astonish. In issue number 59, he fought The Hulk. The next issue, #60, the Tales of Astonish comic book split into two sections. The first half was about the Giant Man starring the Hulk. In issue number 70 the sub Mariner took over Giant Mans place. In 1968 The Hulk officially takes over the entire book and is now renamed The Incredible Hulk which explains why people will never find the issues #7-101 for The Incredible Hulk because it stars Giant Man. In 1968 a new comic book called The Rampaging Hulk is published and it is about stories early in history of the Hulk before anybody knew Bruce Banner was the Hulk and it lasted 6 issues. In 1999 The Incredible Hulk comic book came to an end at issue number 474. In he same year The Hulk began again at issue number 1. In the next year 2000 starting with issue number 12 the Incredible was added back into the title. SUPER HERO CHARACTER

The creators of the character were Stan Lee and Jack Kirby who were also the ones who created The Incredible Hulk. It first appeared in The Incredible Hulk number 1. Throughout his comic book appearances the Hulk was portrayed as a large green monster that has super human strength and that grows more, and more the angrier he gets. Hulk is the alter ego of Bruce Banner a socially withdrawn physicist who physically transforms into the Hulk due to stress that builds up over time Hulk has been represented with different personalities. What inspired Lee to create Hulk was Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Hulks color has been changed a variety of times. The most consistent shade has been green. The character has been used in highly profitable merchandising for generations. Hulk is resistant to injury or damage. His strength allows him to leap into lower earth orbit or across continents and he has displayed superhuman speed. He has shown to have both regenerative and adaptive healing abilities, including growing tissues to allow him to breath under water, and when injured, healing most wounds within seconds. As an effect, he has an extremely prolonged life span. He also has abilities that allow him to home in to his place of origin in New Mexico. ARTIST/WRITER Stan Lee is an American comic book writer, editor, publisher, media producer, television host, actor, voice actor and former president and Chairman of Marvel Comics. When putting things together he got together with a lot of artist like Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. He co-created Spider-man, the Hulk, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor and many others. He also headed the first major successful challenge of the industrys organization. Lee led the Marvel Comics into a large multimedia corporation. He got into the comic book industrys the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1995. Lee with the help of his uncle became an assistant in 1939 at the new Timely Comics division of pulp company.

By the 1960s timely became into Marvel Comics. He graduated from writing filler to actual comics with backup feature. Lee entered the United States army in 1942 and served stateside in Signal Corps writing manuals. Jack Kirby was an American comic book artist, writer and editor regarded by historians and fans of one of the major innovators and most influential creators in the comic book medium. Growing up in poor New York City Kirby entered the comic book industry in the 1930s. He drew various comic features under different names. In 1940, Kirby and writer editor Joe Simon created the super hero Captain America for timely comic. After serving in World War 2, Kirby returned o comics and worked on variety of themes. He produced work for a number of publishers like DC Harvey Comics, Hillman periodicals and Crestwood publications. At the end Kirby found himself at Timelys 1950s corporation. In 1970 Kirby changed companys and there he created his Fourth World saga which turned into several comics. SUMMARY OF COMIC A former Russian spy tries to convince Hulk to be on the other side, the dark side so that they can over take the world and destroy all the humans which creates a problem for the villains to capture Hulk. To get Hulk the villains try to get Bruce Banner, a more easy way to get him to the dark side. There was an abomination that brings Hulk to a florida space station and the two easily work their way to destroy the station and they have the station under their control. He takes ransom on the station for 100 million dollars and if Hulk didnt get what he wanted he was going to destroy the entire station. While waiting for what Hulk wants he demands one of the workers for food to feed them and while he is demanding tem for some food one of the workers attempts to kill Hulk. After hulk tries to kill him and Hulk sees that the worker is not afraid of him and gives up and his partner the villain found out that Hulk is not as ruthless as he

thought he was. Time was still ticking and the US Government decided to attack the weakest link which in this case was Hulk. There were televisions at the station, and on the television Betty the one girl that Hulk loves shows up and tries to talk Hulk into stopping what he was doing and trying to plead Hulk into remembering who she was. Betty accomplished what she wanted to do which was to stop Hulk. Hulk stopped and got confused and notices what people were broadcasting and starts to destroy all the televisions there were in the station which leads to Hulk destroying the base. On the last television Hulk destroys he remembers who betty was and heard what the people had referred her to which was a puny human, his anger rises up again and the Hulk angrily attacks his friend the Abomination. The Hulk and the Abomination start to fight in the station and the fight starts to moves to a nearby rocket that the Government was almost ready to launch. They hit the rocket and it is starting to launch. As the rocket is blasting off the Hulk jumps on the exterior hull and tries to smash his way in. Once Hulk is almost in, the Abomination hits him loose out of the rocket sending him crashing back into earth. The Abomination tries to get away and the Hulk tries to get him and Hulk damages the rocket and it ends up exploding and almost killing the Abomination. The Hulk meanwhile crashes into a Florida swamp. When the news reaches the base on earth about what had happened, the people assume that Hulk has died which sends Betty into tears REVIEW Thesis of the the Incredible Hulk Vol. 1 196 is that the Abomination didnt know Hulk as well as he thinks. He believes that Hulk is well on his side and that Hulk was ready to destroy all the humans until Hulk remembers betty and realizes that the Abomination was not his friend. The writer Stan Lee and Jack Kirby canceled with issue number 6 in March 1963. Lee had written each story with Kirby penciling the first five issues and Steve Ditko penciling and inking

the sixth. The character was drawn into the comic of Fantastic Four. Around 1964, co-creator Kirby had received a letter from a college dormitory stating that Hulk has been chosen as their official mascot. Kirby and Lee realized that their character had found an audience in college aged readers. A year after The Incredible Hulk was canceled. Hulk became one of two features in a new comic called Tales to Astonish beginning in issue number 60 on October year 1964. The Hulk feature was scripted by Lee with the pencils also scripted by Steve Ditko and inks by George Roussos. The new comic now has new villains. Beginning with issue number 102 the book was retitled The Incredible Hulk vol. 2 and ran until 1999 when Marvel cancel the series and launched Hulk number 1
