David Jimenez, Principal Charles Kwan, AP Mathematics This learning contract lists the responsibilities of every student during their math class. Please read the contract with a parent or guardian. Both of you should complete, detach, and return the bottom section to your teacher. The contract should be included in your class notebook so that you may refer to it during the course of the semester. CONTRACT FOR AP STATISTICS CLASS, September 2013-June 2014 As a student in AP Statistics, I agree to the following: 1. I will observe all the rules and regulations of the school when in class. These rules include no eating or drinking (except water), and no electronic devices (i.e. iPod, MP3 player or cell phones, etc.). 2. I will come to class on time. I will sign the Latebook if I am late whether I have a written excuse or not. Unexcused lateness will be penalized. 3. I will come to class prepared and ready to learn. I will always have sharpened pencils with erasers, a colored pen or pencil, and my Math Binder equipped with: 5 dividers loose-leaf paper graph paper previous handouts, notes, and completed homework within the unit In addition, I understand that I will need to have the following materials: graphing calculator (TI-83/84 are strongly recommended.) 4. I will maintain a complete and neat math notebook. The notes for each day will start with the following: Date AIM: ________________________________? My notes must include the questions as well as the solutions/explanations. All handouts and graphs must be dated and either placed with the notes for the same day, or neatly organized in a folder. All tests and homework must be saved as they are considered part of the notebook. I understand that my math notebook will be checked periodically. 5. I will conduct myself in a proper manner in class. I will raise my hand if I have a question, wish to answer a question, or have a comment relevant to the class discussion. I will be respectful while the teacher or a classmate is talking. I will ask questions when I am confused or wish to learn more. I understand that I will be penalized for excessive use of the bathroom pass. I will take the official pass and log the time when I leave or return to class in the Out-ofRoom book. 6. I will be a responsible learner. I will complete all homework assignments and submit them on time. When I have trouble with a particular problem, I will try to the best of my ability and seek extra help or attend tutoring in Room 238. I will check and correct my work in class.

In case of absence: I will return to class the next day with a note signed by a parent, guardian, or doctor. If I miss a test or work due to an unexcused absence, I will receive a zero unless the reason for the absence is acceptable, a makeup test will be given at the earliest convenience. 7. GRADING POLICY. I understand that my grade will be based on the following: Tests, projects, quizzes, and notebook (60%) o There will be a minimum of two major exams per marking period. o There will be a cumulative final at the end of each semester which will count for two test grades. o Quizzes can be announced and unannounced and cannot be made up. o Your grade each semester is cumulative of all the work done in the three marking periods. Homework and Classwork (30%) o Homework will be assigned almost every day and students will be responsible for turning it in on time. If assignments are not completed in a timely fashion, students can make up the homework during tutoring hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 2:35-3:13 in room 238. One homework grade will be dropped per marking period. Class participation (10%) 8. COURSE PROTOCOLS. All work or exams handed in to the teacher will be graded and returned within two weeks. I understand that it is my responsibility to review corrections. The teacher will notify my parent or guardian of any failing grade or work that may lead to a failing grade for the term within a week of assignment of grade. I understand that I will be notified of any required assignments in class. After in-class notification, the teacher may also email or post assignments online. I understand that I have up to the last two weeks of classes to complete makeup work in the case of excused absences. All makeup work will be of an equivalent degree of difficulty as the original. 9. A plethora of time needs to be put outside of class in order to master the difficulty and content of this course and to succeed on the AP exam. Students should expect to spend 5-10 hours on homework as well as individual study outside of the classroom.
