Pre-Algebra A
Welcome to Pre-A. Classes will involve taking notes, discussion, writing, group and partner activities, openers, presentations, investigations, daily classwork, assessments, and homework (yes, homework!).
Make sense of problems & persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly & quantitatively. Construct viable arguments & critique the reasoning of others. Model with mathematics. Use appropriate tools strategically. Attend to precision. Look for and make use of structure. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
GRADING SCALE
Assessments, Projects, and Notebook: Homework: Classwork: Warm-ups: approx 75% approx 10% approx 10% approx 5%
Mid-Term and Final Exams: Get averaged in with assessments, projects, and notebook Zeros and Fs on assessments will not be tolerated; Students are required to eliminate any zeros and follow through on re-taking if they failed to master a concept.

HOW
TO
SUCCEED
IN
MATH CLASS
Do your homework and take notes in class Ask for help from a classmate or the teacher Retake assessments as needed Eliminate missing grades and dont get zeros. Stay organized and be proactive Come in ready to learn and ask meaningful questions Come with the mindset that its ok to make mistakes
Course Description
SEMESTER 1 Unit 1 Multiplying and Dividing with Decimals
Understand and explain what different numbers represent according to their place value. Fluently perform multiplication and division of decimal numbers.
Unit 2
Algebraic Expressions and Integers Understand and explain the similarities and differences of integers and be able to find the absolute value of all numbers. Apply and extend previous understandings of all mathematical operations with rational numbers including integers. . Set-up, solve and evaluate proportions using previous knowledge of fractions. Unit 3 One Step Equations and Inequalities Determine if a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true. Represent, evaluate and solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities. Show and understand that inequalities have infinitely many solutions. Graph ordered pairs on a Cartesian plane. Unit 4 Decimals and Equations Solve algebraic equations with all operations and using all number systems up to and including rational numbers
