Vou i 7 de Janeixe de 1583 Ne 38 SPECIES NOVAE IN BRASILIA BROMELLACEARIM = 2 Eémundo Pereira Herbarium Bradesnun Jord Laie Moutinho Netot™ ABSTRACT The authors describes two nov species in the Bromeliaceae: BromeTia gureniana Pereira & Moutinho, species closely related to 8. tubulosa Lo'a. Smith, from which it differs mainly in the width of the leaves,in the length of the leaf-sheaths, in the sizeof the floral parte and other details evident in the description; and Femaeea booainenste Pereira & Movtinho, which is the gecond species described in thie genus, differs from F. itatiaize Bsker mainly by ite leaves aarroved tovard the base, not forming pseudobulbs and by ite dense inflorescence with cuscseiles Flowers anong others features. As some specific characters vere used in the original description of the genus Femscoa Baker, what vould not let this new species to be placed under this genus, the authore propose 25 emcad to the original description made by Baker (1889). At the second half of the Last century, Baron Heinrich aves Ritter You Fernsee accompanied Prince Maximilian Von wied-Nowsied and Later the Princes August and Ferdinando Von Sazen-coburz on their travels in Brasil, Daring both expeditions he had been collecting plants in the states of Rio de Janelro, £. Santo, Bania-and Pernambuco, being sent all aateriai to Wien. On his last travel he went to the Htatiaia sumait where he found 2 new plant lately described under the name of Sromecia Ztatiatas Wawra (1880). This plant was quite different fron others Eton the same genus and that was noticed by Baker who proposed in 188? a new nus vhere to put Bromelia ttatiatae, using a2 differential characters its inflorescence, bract-like steq-leaves, cupular calyx above the ova~ ry and long such-contorted stigaas", he described the genus Ferms20a Baker, naued after Baron Wawra Yon Fernsee. The holotype of the genus is destroyed but it is well typified by illustrations, Salts (1973). - 3a wgontains fron 1.800-2.200m ale, although with often rai bee nr >On ‘Henceforth no biker plant has been put in thie genus, reeeing monctyp- Ecai'encit our present tines The oply oné plant belonging fo thie gente Sir Fomacce fizclavae (Wevra) Baker, uhich hes a. extrencly | Tnited Scogremnicel discribucion,, Found only st the itatiaie sumit and close SCG St che banciquette soneainn, one. of the. highest Bravilion Ghaiae ah ills, i Lives dn the recly clefts of the igh elcitude grass, funds" ape saxicolous plants These grasslands cover the top of "the oP ene grass Zand flere, which femocea deatialae takes part, ie characterized’ by Srought recistant features since having « Fy season, shallow soil, and Sicelle ictar faiietion due to the altitede:” Four species stand-out Gone fee cihere: Obtaleria nedeeta, Omaquca pinifotia, Cladiin enet= es and faosharég discolor al oul eeun that roach enly 2d eters a be Found Ciowpata iapreestuccua, Rapansa garcuovien, Viemia mi eaatha and Duidlets apectoctootad) terial, 1979- As ve go down, the gragslands ere graduclly eurpacsed by the rainy forest, These forests have! great variety of epecies vith trees reaching 30m alt. covered vith epiphites as Broceliaceae and Orchidaceae. Thie part of the "Serre do Mar" is called "Bocaina” aountains (2,085m alts). The landscape of these areas ie influenced by the wind pattern. Coming fron the sea, the hhot and busid air pacces the choreline and clinbs up the billes Ae it rises up its homidity condenses in the cooler air into mist or rein. These are regions of higher atmoopheric humidity, with more or les¢ strong precipitation: during the whole year, covered with high rainy forests. At the lee side of the Bocaina Mountains the air is dry,with- fut etrong rainc, and as it exosees the parsiba valley, the sir gets moisture, vhich vill be condensed again into mist or rain at it clisbs up the "Mantiqueira mountains". Although covered by rainy forests too, the latter mountains are half as hunid as the former ones (Fueck,1972) . At 1980, during an expedition, Luiz Carlos and Sergio Gurken col- lected in the forest covering the Hocaina mountains several interest ing broneliads.
