A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love for learning.

Purposes of Education:-Brad Henry

Education serves the purpose of enriching the student as a whole. Educators walk along side students to help them deepen their thinking and enlarge their love for learning. Learning happens over the course of a lifetime and teachers are set in place to help each student find his or her desire to learn. When learning becomes fun, then students will be able to better connect with the material they are presented with. In order to make learning fun, it is important that, we, as educators, learn to differentiate in our classrooms. Each student is going to learn in a different way. It is important that there is implementation of different methods of teaching, such as think-pair-share, whole group discussions, and one on one instruction. As stated in Instructional Methodologies, it is important that each student is being accommodated for so that they can begin to see their preferences in learning. Educators should use many different methods of instruction in order that we make learning fun for students. It is important to help each student find their learning style so they can carry that with them in their learning toolbox as they walk through life.

Instructional Methodologies:
There are hundreds of different ways to teach in a classroom. There is lecturing, group discussions, small group discussions, textbook assignments, games, flashcards, etc. It is important that educators seek to find different instruction methods that will meet the diverse needs of each student. It will take more time to prepare each lesson as we seek to meet each students diverse learning style, but it is something that is necessary. Not every lesson is going to address each learning style, but it is important to keep those students in mind as we help them in their independent work or work with them one on one. It is important to continually seek new and different methods of teaching are available so that each students needs are being met and students can also begin to learn what ways they learn best. When a student begins to figure out their learning style, they can then carry that over into other subjects and accommodate for themselves accordingly. While this is not always entirely possible in the lower elementary grades, students can begin to see that they prefer one strategy to another. As students begin to see these preferences, they can relate that back to their learning style. In order for a student to begin seeing these preferences, educators should use many 2 different instructional methods in the

Classroom Management:
It is important to reward students for positive behavior while also teaching them that when they break the rules, there will be consequences for those actions. In my student teaching placement my mentor teacher used chips for behavior management. When a student behaved well or got 100% on his or her spelling test, and many other positive behaviors, she would give them a chip that would be added to the bucket. When we need a student helper to pass out papers or to be a teacher for calendar time, we would pick a chip. We would also pick a chip for prizes at the end of the week or to sit in the teachers chair during reading time. When students misbehave or portray negative behavior, she would take away a chip and then she would move their face on the be you best wall from happy to straight face. If they misbehaved again, they would move their face to sad and send an email home to mom and dad. In regards to classroom rules, one thing that I would love to do is to make a list of rules with the students and then have each of them sign it. If educators would make this list as a whole class, then when the students are misbehaving as a class, the verbal warning could be to refer back to the rules that they helped me make.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Assessment and Evaluation are two very important parts of the classroom. As an educator, it is important that you are not only evaluating our students, but that we are also evaluating ourselves. There is consistently change in technology, curriculum, practices, etc. and I need to be continually learning on behalf my students. When we are assessing our students, it is important to remember that continuous assessment is key. This way we can see what is helping the students and what needs to be changed so that students are continually meeting objectives. By using assessments and data we can then form our lessons and the techniques we use to teach them. Along with using data to form lessons, we can also use it as a log to form goals and objectives for the school year and for the grade level. The data that we get can help us to make SMART goals to better not only our classroom, but the school building and district as a whole.
