The Readings during the month of October inspire in us the virtue of HOPE. We are however reminded that it is FAITH that strengthens our HOPE. God has new plans and wants us to have a new Vision and a New Hope in the power of our Faith to overcome obstacles and refocus our attention on what keeps us moving and ticking for the greater glory of God. The Prophet Habakkuk proclaims Peace and Prosperity for the person of Faith. The Violence and Injustices that a person of faith has to endure will be lessened by the firm hope that the person has in the Lords help that will truly arrive, in Gods time. Saint Paul reminds Timothy to stir up the flames of faith and hope, as Timothy struggles with the difficulties of his mission and work. Christ gives His Apostles advice on how to increase their faith by exercising their faith in times of want, trouble and no hope. Father Sebastian will lead a Group of 15 pilgrims to Poland and Eastern Europe starting on October 7 till October 21. The pilgrimage will end in Medjugorje. Please pray that the faith of the pilgrims will increased and be deepened as they visit the Shrines of the Divine Mercy and other great Churches in Poland, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Medjugorje. INCREASE OUR FAITH

Our Lady of the Rosary

St. Pius V (April 30) established this feast in 1573. The purpose was to thank God for the victory of Christians over the Turks at Lepantoa victory attributed to the praying of the rosary. Clement XI extended the feast to the universal Church in 1716. The development of the rosary has a long history. First, a practice developed of praying 150 Our Fathers in imitation of the 150 Psalms. Then there was a parallel practice of praying 150 Hail Marys. Soon a mystery of Jesus' life was attached to each Hail Mary. Though Mary's giving the rosary to St. Dominic is recognized as a legend, the development of this prayer form owes much to the followers of St. Dominic. One of them, Alan de la Roche, was known as "the apostle of the rosary." He founded the first Confraternity of the Rosary in the 15th century. In the 16th century the rosary was developed to its present formwith the 15 mysteries (joyful, sorrowful and glorious). In 2002, Pope John Paul II added five Mysteries of Light to this devotion. COMMENT; The purpose of the rosary is to help us meditate on the great mysteries of our salvation. Pius XII called it a compendium of the gospel. The main focus is on Jesushis birth, life, death and resurrection. The Our Fathers remind us that Jesus' Father is the initiator of salvation. The Hail Marys remind us to join with Mary in contemplating these mysteries.

OCTOBER- THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY.

Please attend the Recitation of the Rosary each Sunday, a half hour before Masses. The Rosary was the spiritual weapon used by the outnumbered Christians at the Battle of Lepanto on October 07, 1571. Let us pray with our Blessed Mother for PEACE in the world, for Muslims to understand their acts of violence is against God Himself and that the Leaders of our Nations seek justice and Peace and not War and Money.

OCTOBER 12, ROSARY AT THE GROTTO. Please come at 11.30 AM on October 12, for recitation of the Rosary in public, outside the Church. We shall be joining thousands of fellow Catholic Americans in praying the Rosary for our Nation.

How to Hear God Speaking to You Many people never listen to God because they are not aware that He speaks to them. Yet, God does speak. One way to live in His presence is to acquire the habit of recognizing His voice when He speaks. If we do not know that God wishes to communicate with us, or the ways He has chosen, then our passage through life will be devoid of the most perfect of guides. When does God speak to us? He speaks at all times, especially in prayer. Prayer is a conversation with God. But it is not a monologue. When we pray, then, we should also listen, because a good conversationalist is also a good listener. We do not pray well when we recite ready-made formulas quickly and distractedly. We act as if God has only to listen to us, and that we have no need to listen to the thoughts and desires that He wishes to communicate to us. He has promised, If thou wilt hear the voice of the Lord thy God, and do what is right before Him, and obey His commandments, and keep all His precepts, none of the evils that I laid upon Egypt will I bring upon thee.
Unfortunately, many of us have never trained ourselves to listen to His voice. But, if we are to know Gods will, we must listen to Him and obey Him when we recognize His commandments. But how does God speak to us? God is a pure spirit. Unlike man, He has no voice. If He wishes to speak to us, He must use some means outside of Himself, adapted to our nature, by which He can communicate ideas. He may use things we can see and hear in order to stir our imagination, or He may enter directly into our thoughts.

He presumes we know that a steward is someone entrusted with the administration of his masters property. What is expected of the steward, anyway? To conserve his masters property and maintain it, of course. In this story, the master owns an agricultural business. The nature of a business is to turn a profit. The stewards job, then, was not just to maintain the property, but to grow the business. If you entrust hard -earned money to the stewardship of a stock broker, dont you expect him to grow that portfolio? Remember the parable of the talents in Mat 25 the master was very stern with the steward who preserved what hed been given but failed to make it grow. The steward in Luke 16 did not increase his masters property. He squandered it. It is not clear if he did so through dishonest greed or by foolish business decisions. But in any case, he failed. When he was given a termination notice, he suddenly kicked into gear. To ingratiate himself with those who could provide for him after he lost his job, he wrote off part of their debt. Scripture scholars disagree about the meaning of this. Some say he did this dishonestly at the expense of his master. Others say that he was simply giving away his own commission. I think the latter makes more sense, since rather than rebuking him, his master praised him for his prudence. Stewardship means more than just throwing five bucks in the basket and signing up to help with the Lenten fish fry. It means realizing that all we have is entrusted to us by God and that we have an obligation to grow it, making it as fruitful as possible for his glory.

NEW PARISHIONERS: Newcomers are encouraged to register with the parish and are welcome to participate in all parish activities and ministries. Registration forms are available in the back of the Church.

Forming A Healthy Conscience Each one of us is born with and endowed with a singular conscience by which we are obliged to form, to cultivate, and to follow in order to live a richer and more moral life. However, this necessitates a properly formed conscience within the soul. If we do not properly form a conscience we will most likely end up with a bad one, or what is more properly called a mal-formed conscience. So, in order to arrive at a well formed conscience, it will take vigilance and ultimately reforming our soul to be properly ordered to the good. A Mal-formed Conscience is one that does not know what decision to make in a moral quandary. Truth always exists, but we may not be aware of where it is. When we act with a doubtful conscience we risk the possibility of making a wrong moral choice and offending the Lord. In this dilemma, the best course of action is to consult a source to help us to discover what really is the true and noble decision and path to take. Up to this point we have basically been explaining the deformed or unhealthy consciences. What then are clear sign-posts of acquiring the so called Healthy conscience? To start off, all of us are morally obliged to strive to form a healthy conscience. Otherwise we fall into the sin of omissionnot doing what we are obliged to do. A healthy conscience is a wellformed conscience that responds in the proper manner to good actions as well as evil actions that we call sin. A healthy conscience after the commission of some sin experiences an inner sense of guilt. What follows guilt is sadness, anger, confusion and disorientation which are manifest signs of a healthy conscience. At the same time, the person with the healthy conscience when he does good actions, actions that are pleasing to God, then the Holy Spirit intervenes to console him and give him the peace that surpasses all natural aspirations!

Prayer Before Bed This is a very common prayer often heard in movies and media. "And now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, and if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." Angel of God Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here. Be thy always at my side light and guide, to rule and guard. Amen
