Science: Fossils Day 2 Objective Students will build upon prior knowledge by watching a short video on fossils, taking notes, and participating in group discussion. P21 Framework - Communicate clearly. - Collaborate with others. - Be responsible to others. NETS-S 3.b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media. 5.b. Exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity. NETS-T 2.a. Design or adapt learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. 3.c. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats Materials - projector/computer/internet access - BrainPopJr membership to view "Fossils" video: http://www.brainpopjr.com/science/land/fossils/pre... - Field Journal for each student - pencil Procedures - Students will revisit the KWL chart created on Day 1. Discuss what students want to know. What questions do they have? - Introduce BrainPopJr video "Fossils." Invite students to take notes while they watch. Students should write down any new information they learn. - Pair-Share: Students will share what they learned with a partner. Partners will report to the whole group for discussion. - Use interactive Word Wall on BrainPopJr to discuss key vocabulary terms: fossil, extinct, sediment, paleontologist, decompose. Assessment Students should have at least three new ideas or facts written in their notes. This will be monitored via a checklist. Differentiation Visual and auditory learners' needs are met through the video. Kinesthetic learners are engaged when they can choose a place in the room to work with a partner. Possible accommodations: seated at front of room, partner with teacher or knowledgable classmate.
