sound is defined aas a mechanical pressure wave (vibrations) consisting of a series of compressions and expansions through a medium Audible sound 20-20 Khz Ultrasound is also a mechanincal presure wave with a frequency above 20 Khz as such has a frequency higher than the upper human auditory limit of 20 Khz, medical ultrasonic machines utilizing waves with a frequency ranging between 2-18 MHz.

ultraosund waves are produced by a transducer which is a device (piezoelectric crystal) that converts input energy of one form into output energy of another form.
