After working with me, I want writers to understand that not getting it is an inherent part of being a writer, because

it opens them to continued development on their own. By helping them reach this openness, Im changing the trajectory of their development. My hope is that they will walk away being able to take risks and engage with others. I dont want to just help writers develop; I want to change how writers develop. I hope to measure the success of this philosophy through the Writing Fellows program. I have already applied my philosophy in my interactions with my assigned writers. Using stories of when I took risks in my personal development as a writer, I communicated both my theoretical and personal understanding of how important it is to take risk and learn from mistakes. A specific instance of this was when I was explaining to a writer the strategy I used for creating an argument. My first year of college, I struggled to write well-supported arguments. It was only by recognizing my weak papers as opportunities and trying different writing strategies that I developed a stronger sense of how to craft an argument. I am hoping that the application of my philosophy with my writers in the fellows program will help them become more comfortable with taking risk and making mistakes. I will measure this by identifying instances of new strategies and tactics in their future materialcompared to their material I have already reviewed-and by the feedback I get from them at the end of the quarter.
