Whats Happening in Ghana?

Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda, 2010-2013

Outlines the focus of the Ghanaian government in improving sustainable management of resources, improving private sector, international trade, increasing human productivity, including health care access, gender inequalities, and mental health offerings, and ways of monitoring progress. Step toward reaching the Millennium Development Goals and targets

Millennium Development Goals

1) Eradicate poverty and hunger

Halve the number of people whose income is less than $1 and halve the number of people suffering from hunger (1990 2015)

2) Achieve universal primary education

By 2015, boys and girls able to complete a full primary course

3) Promote gender equality and empower women

Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education (2005), and in all levels (2015)

4) Reduce child mortality

By two-thirds, reduce under-five child mortality (1990-2015)

Millennium Development Goals

5) Improve maternal health

Reduce maternal mortality ratio by three-quarters (1990-2015)

6) Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases (2015)


Stop the spread of and initiate curing of HIV/AIDS Stop the spread of and decrease the incidence of malaria and other diseases

7) Ensure environmental sustainability


Integrate principles of sustainable development into country policies/programs and reverse the loss of environmental resources Halve the number of people who do not have access to lasting, potable water (2015) Significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers (2020)

8) Develop a global partnership for development
