Tourist Types
On any given holiday there will be a wide range of different tourist types. Brainstorm in your groups to come up with as many as you can think of.

Now choose FI E different types and use these spider diagrams to brainstorm the characteristics you would expect your five types of tourists to have e.g. wealth, transport, activities, food, time of year to go,

AO!" Lo#ational Des#ription

This section will provide a detailed background on both Paris and isney !orld, Orlando. Paris is a ma"or city and isney !orld is a purpose built destination so they will be very contrasting.

#ou need to use a series of maps to describe their location. These maps need to be annotated and re$eren#ed go alongside a short written description of what the map is showing. To get top marks you need to use a range of different sources$not "ust the internet% The following maps are needed$

6n this section you must provide a detailed explanation of the appeal of each destination to different tourist types looking at a wide range of factors. -se the following headings7 Climate 8or this you need to include climate graphs, tables and refer to them in your description by 4uoting facts and figures. #ou need to describe the climate of the area and any one off weather events that may occur and compare these to the -3 by showing graphs and tables of -3. #ou must pay attention to the different weather according to the different seasons and give your own opinion on when best to visit and why. #ou need to look at a range of the different accommodation available in each of the destinations. +lthough there will be a range each destination has one type they are best known for so include this. #ou will provide a selection of examples and give a brief description of each one suggesting which tourist types might they suit. Events and Festivals This includes festivals and events that have happened in the very recent past or are due to happen in the future. These can cover a wide range of examples such as sport, music, food, celebration etc. #ou need to ensure you pick out individual festivals or events or time of the year to take part in these activities and suggest which tourists these might suit. Resear#, #ou need to start with two or three paragraphs explaining how you researched for this section. ,xplain how you will use both primary and secondary data collection techni4ues )you might want to define these terms' in order to gain an in=depth knowledge of the options available. #ou will need to use techni4ues such as making phone calls, sending e mails, travel guides, timetables, internet and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of using both of these. #ou will have to create a short, one page 4uestionnaire to use to get information from someone who has been to Paris and2or isney !orld. #ou need to ask 4uestions to get an understanding of how long they spent there, where they stayed, their opinion on the accommodation, how they got there and how they travelled around, what attractions did they go to$.and anything else you feel is important. #ou need to get at least two of these completed for each destination. 6t is important you keep a record of exactly what you have done and then put this in a bibliography at the end of this section. Analysis This section will focus on explaining why #O- think each destination is popular. <ere you will use the information you have collected in the previous sections to argue the case why you think tourists are attracted to these places and compare and contrast the two areas. 6t is important to include information on7 The contrasts between the two destinations in terms of culture, history, development, local traditions, way of life, language, currency, religion, cuisine etc !hat types of tourist type is likely to go to these destinations <ow long do you think they would stay and why

!hat they would do when they get there #ou also need to include a bibliography containing all websites, books, leaflets etc you have used. #ou also need to make a short comment on whether these were useful or not and what you used them for.

AO-" Re#ent Trends and Predi#tions


#ou need to provide a clear understanding of the recent trends in tourism in each destination. To do this you must find relevant and up=to=date statistics on tourism numbers to each destination. #ou must analyse this data and draw valid conclusions from it i.e. why do you think the tourist numbers are increasing or decreasing. #ou need to pay close attention to a wide range of factors as to why increases or decreases might be occurring. These might include7

#ou must also examine the >8uture Popularity? of the destination. 6n this section you will examine whether you believe the destination will remain popular or not by looking at how you think it will be respond to a number of factors such as, recession, exchange rates, terrorism, natural disasters, transport options, price, environmental impacts on flight availability, competition from other destinations, will the destination still be fashionable and any others you can think of.

#ou need to evaluate at least five different factors and back this up by finding evidence to support your viewpoint. ,ach factor should be * or / paragraphs and include statistics, graphs and charts. :ook at data and the pattern of visitors and try and draw conclusions about what will happen over the next few years.
