PRESS RELEASE: 23/10/2013 FOODBANK NSW STEPS UP TO FEED FIREFIGHTERS AND VICTIMS IN BLUE MOUNTAINS AND KEEN TO HELP

COMMUNITY GROUPS NSWs largest supplier of food for charities, Foodbank, has thrown its resources into helping to feed hundreds of firefighters and bushfire victims in the Blue Mountains. Foodbanks trucks have delivered to Springwood, Katoomba and Lawson with food and drinks, with the charitys food distribution centre in Sydney now being supplied by more than 500 companies across the state with emergency supplies for distribution. CEO of Foodbank NSW, Gerry Andersen, said We and our generous suppliers are delighted to be helping the brave fire-fighters and the families affected by these terrible fires that are ravaging our Blue Mountains. We are working with community and church groups and the Rural Fire Service brigades, and are keen to work with other organisations who need support. Foodbank NSW supports 556 charity agencies in NSW, including the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Mission Australia, Anglicare and Uniting Church. The charity helps the charities feed 80,000 people each month with more than 670,000 healthy meals, equating to more than 4 million kgs of food over the last 12 months, including 1 million kgs of fresh fruit and vegetables.
