September 9,2013 Dear Parents and/or Legal Guardians: Congratulations on your sons'/daughters' acceptance into the Physical Education 10 Leadership class. Your child has been accepted based on maturity, leadership ability, and previous Physical Education experience. I look fonrvard to working with the students to further enhance these skills and develop a keen interest in the physical activity domain. ln addition to the core curriculum, your son/daughter must complete community service within the school and primarily during class time. Three major events will be organized to complete community service: Terry Fox Run (term one), Charity Fundraising (term oneitwo/three), and the Colt Country Challenge Basketball Tournament (term two). This requirement is based on the belief that the students will achieve life long learning through this experience by providing them with a sense of commitment to their community, provide experience/volunteer work to place oh a resume, and learn the importance to give of one self to the institution which gives them many opportunities. The development of leadership skills is always our underlying focus in all activities and fieldtrips. Students will also participate in recreational activities that are not offered in the regular PE classes (ie. golf, tubing, cycling, ice skating ,etc.). To enhance the students experience and knowledge of a variety of local recreational activities offered in the Richmond and Vancouver community, field trips will be co-ordinated throughout the year. lt is the responsibility of the students to pay for any costs incurred for fieldtrips. At the beginning of each term, a letter will be sent to you with the costs for planned trips for that term. All costs will be outlined to the best of my knowledge and subject to change (approx. $35-$40/term).
In order to limit costs, we will take public transportation to some activities. Students will be prepped before hand regarding our route and additional safety measures will be conducted (ie. contact numbers, buddy system, etc. By using public transportation, students will recognize their ability to utilize many recreational activities both within and outside the Richmond community.

We also go on a camping trip to Newcastle lsland in late May. More information will come home in February and will cost approximately $160 in addition to the course fees. This trip has become a Leadership tradition and is a trip that is earned based on the class' performance during the schoolyear.
lf you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at the school at: 604-668-6400.

Sincerely

t
