Introversion in Strategic Tutoring

Problem: Minimalist strategies are geared towards extroverts and do a disservice to introverts.

Relevance of recognizing introversion Writing Fellows: Understanding the propensities and


needs of introverted writers will help us better adapt and be more effective tutors.

Researchers: Understanding how introverts learn best will


help relevant figures craft policies and procedures for both extroverts and introverts.

Solution: Familiarize ourselves with the learning inclinations of introverts and adapt appropriately in tutoring appointments

Introversion refers to finding ones motivations in inner or subjective factors, and extroversion to deriving motivation from external factors

Problems with Minimalist Style


-Minimalism aims for active student involvement -assumes that non-active student is noncooperative and insists on strategies for creating active participation. -Negatively characterizes passive learners

Many well-meaning teachers and parents try to mold the youth into socially outgoing individuals without understanding the deep-seated feelings and motivations of the sensitive, introspective people we categorize as introverts -Arnold Henjum

-Adapt (Same as directive tutoring/Shamoon & Burns) -Accommodate their learning style (share ideas,
use a personal experience, give them more time to work on an activity alone)
