Sarah Garretts Cover Letter

For my memoir I want to explore some memories from my childhood, and growing up that I feel have led to me becoming a realist. A lot of people place on me a discursive identity of being a pessimist, however, I believe I am more of a realist because I see things for the way they are, and I dont have my head in the clouds. I am inquiring into how my childhood possibly pushed me to have a realistic and down to earth viewpoint on life. I also think my observant nature lends to this trend in my personality, so I will explore how several points in my life I've observed my family and loved ones and gained insight about life and what is and isn't pragmatic. My memoir pushed me to think about how stories of my life have shaped me into how I am. Telling these stories in a text like this make me realize how my childhood has inexplicably impacted who I am as a person. It was interesting to think about how telling the stories of growing up to other people in a way that illustrates what Im trying to communicate about my personality. It was difficult to consider how the stories of my life can be interpreted by others, and how I should describe them to people in a way that builds a theme. Writing this memoir has made me realize that even though Ive been through some rough things it has made me into a better person.
