Identify Topics Needs to reflect current concepts being taught, students experiences are important to reflect on. Specify Learning Objectives Objectives should consist of developing students critical thinking and hypothesizing skills, as wells as relating concepts to each other. Select Ex. /Nonex. Must be pertinent to the concept you are trying to teach. Examples must contain all the important characteristics of the subject being discussed. Again, students environment and experiences should be considered when choosing these. Sequence Ex. /Nonex. - Give examples in differentiating difficulty. Do not make them all easy.

Introduction This needs to grab their attention as well as ease them into the concept comfortably. Examples & Hypothesizing Giving the students an example and counterexample, allow them to hypothesize what concept you are about to teach. Analysis Cycle Students test their past hypotheses to see if they are still valid based on the information you presented to them. If not, allow them to construct new hypotheses. Closure & Application Guide the students to inform you of the basic characterisitcs of the concept. Also assess their definition of the concept and relate it to other academic or real world experiences.

Students should be able to define the concept taught. Students must be able to produce/choose other examples of the concept out of a list of choices. Ask students to list various characteristics of the concept covered. Allow students to relate the current concept to other taught or that they know of from other sources. Assess students critical thinking skills by allowing them to explain the concept in various instances you provide.

Students are able to develop their own hypotheses and test them, motivating them to develop better critical thinking skills. Students can be encouraged to try to create better examples or counter-examples than the teacher provided. Helps develop team work skills, teams can create their own hypotheses and test them against other teams to determine the most valid hypothesis.

So what? What is important to understand about this?

This model allows students to broaden and sharpen their critical thinking skills. Also allows students to develop their own hypotheses and test them against the given information from the instructor. Introduces student to the Scientific Method.
