topic that I chose to write about is the wealth inequality gap that occurs in the United States. It is a very controversial topic that many have a hard time grasping. Some argue that the wealthy should be taxed more, but my argument will try and prove that the rich should not be taxed more because they deserve their high incomes. My project is as follows: I would like to provide both sides of the argument on wealth inequality and potentially prove that the wealthy should not be taxed more. I believe that an equal tax rate is the best solution and most fair solution to this problem. Sources Sherter, Alain. Why Raising Taxes on the Rich is Good Economics. CBSNews.com. CBS Interactive Inc., 9 Aug. 2011. Web. 10 November 2013. This article is about raising taxes on the rich and how it is good economics. It states multiple reasons as to why high taxes would help the economy. This article is mainly geared towards raising taxes on the highest earning households. I will use this prospective as my counterargument. It discusses that raising taxes on the rich would not hurt their incomes. With that being said, I will aruge against that statement to prove that it will hurt their incomes. Rogan, Tom. Welfare States are Unfair States. TheWeek.com. The Week Publications Inc., 7 Jan. 2013. Web. 10 November 2013. This article all about welfare and how people misuse its benefits. Welfare is a public aid system that helps those in need and it helps support themselves or their families. It talks

Jacques 2 about how it encourages economic inactivity, punishes success, and causes social fractures. Welfare states weaken the initiative for people to work. I will use this article to talk about how welfare is not a good system and it is being abused. Therefore the welfare system is actually hurting our economy and if they took it away or changed the dynamics of it, taxes wouldnt have to be raised. Rosenfelder, Mark. "Why the Rich Should Pay More Taxes." Why the Rich Should Pay More Taxes. N.p., n.d. Web. 11 Nov. 2013. This article is all about why the rich should be taxed at a higher rate than the households with lower incomes. The opening argument argues that the rich should be taxed more because they get more from the government. The example it uses is social security and how people with higher incomes put more money into the budget then ultimately getting more money when they retire. The article also brings up education and how the wealthy send their kids to private schools and that the best public schools are full of well of children. I am very happy that I found this article because the author holds a strong position. But I plan on proving that his statements and assumptions are wrong. I dont agree with t most of the points he tries to make, so I feel as I will be able to pull a lot of arguments from it. Should the Rich be Required to Pay Higher Taxes in the US? Debate.org. Juggle, LLC., n.d. Web. 10 November 2013. This source is interesting in that it is a debate and on the website it has both sides of the argument on whether or not the rich should be forced to pay higher taxes. The public is allowed to input their opinion and their opinion is shown as a percentage, which splits the page for and against high taxes. I will use this article/debate to prove my side. I will use the fact that the

Jacques 3 publics votes that are against high taxes are higher than the votes that are for high taxes. I will also use direct quotes from the public to help prove my point.
