Inquiry 4: Remediation Your goal: remediate a previous inquiry into a new medium, and reflect on how its transformation

affected your rhetoric. The purpose of this inquiry is to get you thinking about how a new rhetorical situation (medium, audience, purpose, use of appeals, context, constraints/affordances) affects the presentation of a text. Inquiry 4 is worth 200 points, or 20% of your overall grade in the course and will consist of multiple components: Proposal: 15 points Medium analysis: 15 points Rough drafts/peer response participation: 10 points Remediation: 80 points Writers reflection: 80 points

Possible mediums for consideration: Pamphlet Magazine Twitter account Pinterest board Video- vlog post, remix, PSA, etc. Tumblr Meme series Scrapbook Painting Comic book Storify Podcast Board game

This is your chance to get creative! I welcome you to explore possible mediums that arent included on this list.

How will this all be graded? The proposal, medium analysis and rough draft/peer response will be graded mainly on completion. As long as you complete these on time and demonstrate youve put forth an appropriate amount of effort/answered all of the prompt questions in a deep and engaged way, you will receive all the points. The remediation will be graded in regards to: 1.) How radical the remediation is. In other words, were not looking for copying and pasting what youve already composed into your new medium. Rather, you must demonstrate that youve deeply reflected on the new rhetorical situation to create a text with the same message but different presentation and use of rhetoric. 2.) Attention to design and creativity. Are you maximizing the affordances of the new medium? Are you engaging with the new medium in a thoughtful and creative way?

3.) Central messagedoes the remediation still make the same point or argument? 4.) Does the remediation resemble other texts that exist in this medium? How closely are you following the conventions The writers reflection portion of inquiry 4 is essentially a rhetorical analysis of your remediation in the form of a letter to me. It can be informal, but in at least 750 words, reflect on the transformation of your project in terms of how the new medium affected your use of rhetoric and the choices you made as an author. Consider how the new constraints and affordances compare to those that existed in your texts original presentation. Did your purpose change? Furthermore, you should reflect on the new rhetorical situation that was created as a result of a shift in the medium. How did the audience change/affect your text? What about your use of the appeals in our remediation as compared to the original text? In other words, what happened to the text after it was remediated?
