Abstract:
Aims: Qantitative and qualitative evaluation of Pollen and trichome micromorphology of Stellaria
media, S. pallida, S. persica, S. gramminea, S. holostea, S. alsinoides and Myosoton aquaticum,
Mesostemma kotschyanum by using light microscopy and scanning electron (SEM) and diagnostic
importance of these features in taxa separation are the goals of this study.
Material and methods: The study of stem hairs surface by stereomicroscope and electron microscopy
was performed. Trichomes length and thickness and the type and shape of trichome were studied. The
quantitative and qualitative traits such as exine thickness, the distance between the pores, number of
pores, along the polar axis (P), the length of the equatorial axis (E), the P / E, general shape of pollen
and pores were evaluated.
Results: The review of trichomes condition in S. Pallida and S. media is unilateral, multicellular
and segmented with round ends, while in Mesostemma kotschyanum subsp. kotschyanum, myosoton
aquaticum S. alsinoides, trichomes are multiseriate and multicellular. In S. holostea trichomes are
single celled with a sharp end which is different from other species. In S. gramminea, S. persica there
are absolutely no trichomes . According to the obtained results, separation and identification of
species based on trichomes micromorphological similarity are somehow effective.
Discussion: Multivariate statistical analysis composed of cluster, ordination and factor analysis were
done to evaluate the separation of taxa based on studied micromorphological features.
