Connection Check

This facility is a powerful tool which helps in setting the connections right. Here, it displays over voltage (for individual phase), over current (for individual phase) and phase sequence information. Over voltage is detected if any phase voltage is above 125% of Vb (basic voltage) for LT + Accuchek and 130% of Vb for HT+ Accuchek. Over current is detected if any current is above 120% of Ib (basic current) f or both LT and HT. While displaying connection check, Accuchek will makes beep sound to attract user attention. In case user gets message for over voltage or for over current or for both, then he must switch off the Accuchek immediately and recheck the connections. Accuchek should be made ON only after ensuring that voltages and currents are within the specified limits. If ' --------' is displayed, that means there is no over voltage or no over current is there in any of the phase. In case of forward phas e sequence (e.g. RYB, YBR & BRY), message 'FOR' is displayed and in case of reverse phase sequence (e.g. RBY, YRB & BYR), message 'REV' is displayed. If any phase voltage is below 35% of Vb or testing on single phase then no sequence (e.g. ------) is displayed. This display will continue until 'Enter' key is pressed for next display. Example below is showing over voltage in R phase and over current in Y phase and phase sequence is forward.

Next screen will be displayed only when, there is any of the following condition, otherwise it switches to next display of calibration pulse rate. (a) Missing voltage: declared if any voltage is below 67% of Vb (V basic) for LT + Accuchek and 70% of Vb for HT+ Accuchek. (b) Missing Current: declared if any current is below 0.6% o f Ib (I basic). (c) Reverse Current: declared if any current is reverse. NOTE: - In case of any phase potential is missing than current reversal or missing current of that phase will not be checked, in that case last line ' I Reverse = ' will not be displayed. Y phase current missing & current reversal is not applicable for 3P3W selection in Accuchek HT+. Example below is showing missing current in B phase and reverse current in R phase.. User should correct the connections before proceeding ahead. Press 'Enter' key to switch to next display .

16 of 39

5.6

Single-phase Testing

This option is applicable for Accuchek LT+ only for testing single-phase meters. Red phase voltage & Red phase current should only be used for checking accuracy of single-phase meters. Selection switch should be switched to 1-phase before start of this test. Accuchek will ask user about single-phase mode of operation as shown below, soon after second screen of connection check display. This display will not come if testing 3-phase meter.

If user enters choice '1' or presses 'Enter' key then it will continue with single-phase testing and if user enters choice '0' then it will ask for reselecting the meter type again.

5.7

Calibration Pulse Rate

This display will show the pulse rate of its own calibrati on LED in Impulses per kilo-Watt-hour unit. Referring to Accuchek HT +, 3P3W and 3P4W with 5A selection has pulse rate 40000 Imp/kWh. It is useful in checking its own accuracy against a higher precision instrument.

In case of Accuchek LT +, 1A selection has pulse rate of 80000 Imp/kWh, 5A selection has 16000 Imp/kWh and 100A clamp -on CT selection has 800 Imp/kWh. ( For other rating of Clamp-ON CT pulse rate will be different) Following example is showing 40000 Imp/kWh.

Ready mode

This mode can easily be recognized by 'Ready' displayed on last line. Here user can see any of the instantaneous parameters by pressing 'Check' key or opt for data entry by pressing 'Enter' key or can start a new test by pressing 'Start' key. On power up it will not start test on pressing 'Start' key until user enters test mode. Refer section "Getting familiar with keyboard - CHECK key" for details of all instantaneous parameters.

5.9
A

Data Entry
MUT serial number

On pressing 'Enter' key in ready mode, following screen will be displayed for entering M eter U nder Test (MUT) serial number.

17 of 39

By default, it displays MUT serial number of the last completed test. User can enter desired MUT serial number (maximum 10 alphanumeric characters) through keyboard or can keep the same serial number by pressing 'Enter' key. User entry is display on the right hand side after (arrow) mark and header is display on the left side of the last line of the display. Use delete key for deleting the last entries. When -numeric key is pressed, corresponding number or alphabet will displayed on the display. Above example is displaying instantaneous individual phase active currents, three-phase average power factor, frequency, real time, and MUT serial number '0123456789'. After making entry press 'Enter' key to accept the MUT serial number entered and switching to next display of consumer ID. B Consumer Identification Code (ID)

As the user presses 'Enter' key after entering MUT serial number, next screen for entering Consumer ID will be displayed as shown in the display example follows:

It displays last entered consumer ID, which the user can change (maximum 10 alphanumeric characters) through keyboard. In case user does not want to change entry then he/she can skip this entry by pressing 'Enter' key. Example above is showing instantaneous individual phase reactive currents, fixed displays (Power Factor, Frequency and Time) and consumer ID. C Meter Constant

On pressing 'Enter' key, next screen for entering meter constant will be displayed. By default, the meter constant of the last meter tested will be displayed.

If the user wants to go on with the same settings, he/she needs to press 'Enter' key. The program will go on to the next screen. But if the user wants to change the meter constant then he/she needs to press numeric keys to enter the meter constant. Meter constant can be of maximum 7 digits. Once the user has finished entering the number, presses 'Enter' key will enter the data. There is a provision for entering the meter constant with decimal value also (like 533.333 for meter constant 1600/3). For entering decimal value press 'Shift' key and then '0' key. Please note that decimal point can be entered only once in an entry. User can enter meter constant for Electro -mechanical meters in revolutions/kWh or for static meters in Impulses/kWh. Test modes allowed are '0' (i.e. pulse mode) and '1' (i.e. Start-Stop mode). In pulse mode, either Opto scanner or Snap-switch can be used and in Start-stop mode, only Snap-switch can be used. For details, refer chapter "Performing a Test". In case the user wants to test a static meter without calibration pulse output then he/she needs to enter 0 for the meter constant (in this case it is assumed that such meters don't have any meter constant). In this case, the Accuchek will not ask the number of test revolutions and energy type information. Revolution is taken as one and tri-vector energy mode is assumed. Here, user can test meters in 'Start-Stop' mode (mode = 1) or 'Meter Communication' mode (mode = 2). How to enter very small meter constant? E.g. HT meter with meter constant 0.001524 Revs.\kWh and CT ratio 2000? In this case user should enter Meter constant = 0.001524 x 1000 = 1.524 and CT ratio = 2000/1000 = 2. This is done to get correct accuracy without any mathematical error. The Rule: For meters having very small meter constant, multiply it with a suitable number before entering on the Accuchek and also divide the CT ratio or the PT ratio with the same number before entering on the Accuchek.

18 of 39

Meter Constant Energy type

This screen will not be displayed if 0 meter constant is entered. Here user has to select one option from 0/1/2/3. Each option corresponds to different energy type, which user can check by pressing key '0', '1', '2', or '3'. Entry will be accepted only on pressing 'Enter' key

The details of Energy type code are shown in the table.

Option 0 1 2 3 Meter constant Energy Type Imp/kWh Imp/kVArh+ Imp/kVArhImp/kVAh Purpose Testing kWh meter Testing kVArh meter in Lag power factor Testing kVArh meter in Lead power factor Testing kVAh meter

One of the good features is that on selecting particular energy type, pulsing calib LED will start blinking in that unit. This feature is useful for checking its own accuracy (of active, reactive and apparent energy) against some other reference standard. E.g. if Imp/kVAh is selected then calib LED will start blinking for 4000 Imp/kVAh. On every power up it resets to default unit of Imp/kWh. E Test Revolutions or Number of pulses

Pressing Enter key w ill take the user to the test revolution entry screen. Here user has to enter the number of disc revolutions in case of Electro-mechanical meters or the number of pulses in case of static meters for which he/she wants to test. E.g. if user has entered 100 revs then test will be completed on receiving 100 pulses or on counting 100 times red mark of rotating disc.

This will not be asked if zero meter constant is entered, (in this case it is assumed to be one). By default, the test revolutions of the last meter tested will be displayed. If the user wants to go on with the same settings, he/she needs to press 'Enter' key. The program will go on to the next screen. However, if the user wants to change the test revolutions then he/she needs to enter it through keyboard. The maximum value for REVS is 65534. If user enters more than this or zero then Accuchek will prompt "Enter again" and user can enter correct value. F PT ratio

This option is available in Accuchek HT+ only. By pressing enter key will display the PT ratio of the last meter tested. If the user wants to change it then press numeric keys to make suitable entries. The process is similar to the one used for entering meter constant of the MUT. PT ratio can have a value as high as 99999. Press Enter key when you have finished making entries. The PT ratio also supports decimal point entry.

19 of 39

In this example the meter is commissioned at 11 kV and Accuchek is commissioned at 110V. So the PT ratio = 11 kV/110 V = 11000 V/110 V = 100, the display will look like as shown above . G CT ratio

Process is similar to one use for PT ratio entering. If user does not want to change the displayed entry then he/she can switch over to next entry by pressing 'Enter' key.

Example above is showing CT ratio for the (MUT) meter of 100A/5A CT = 20 CT ratio. Other information is instantaneous threephase active power (P), three-phase reactive power (Q, +ve sign means importing kVAr and -ve sign means exporting kVAr) and three-phase apparent power (S). Fixed displays instantaneous average power factor, frequency and real time is also displayed in fixed display area. Note: In case a big number is entered for Meter constant or PT ratio or CT ratio and entry is rechecked, then you will find a little change after 2nd decimal place. I t happens; because of floating point number system is used for storing real numbers. It will not affect error computation or the performance of the Accuchek.

Test Mode

It is the information supplied by user for performing test in a particular fashion for a particular type of meter. Entering 'mode' is must on every power -up to enable Accuchek to start a test. On the next page, the list of all possible combinations of test mode and their use is given. User can check the meaning of each of the test mode code i.e 0/1/2 by pressing respective keys, on display. E.g. on pressing '0' key it will display "Pulse mode", means code zero is for testing meter in pulse mode. Similarly 1 is for start-stop and 2 is for meter communication mode. Mode is not selected until user presses 'Enter' key after choosing the desired choice. Following screen will be displayed if non-zero meter constant is entered:

Above example is showing that user can test meter in either mode 0 (i.e. pulse mode) or in mode 1 (start -stop mode). If user presses '0' then following screen will be displayed:

Now pulse mode will be selected only on pressing 'Enter' key and display changes to ready state as shown in the example display screen.

20 of 39

Now the data entry is over and Accuchek is ready for starting the test. User must connect either Opto-scanner or snap-switch in the same slot, before pressing 'Start' key. Which (Opto-scanner or Snap-switch) is to be connected, choice depends on mode entered.

Meter consta nt entered Nonzero (e.g. 40000 Imp/kW h)

Test mode displaye d 0 Pulse mode

Purpose For testing Electromechanica l or static meters with calib pulse.

Operating procedure Opto scanner or Snap switch can be used. If snap switch is used then needs to be pressed on every MUT p ulse or the disc revolution (judged on red mark crossing).

Remark It is better to use Opto Scanner in this mode as user can miss Snap switch pressing on some of the pulses/revs, that results in incorrect results. It is useful when the pulses or revolutions are coming at slow rate and can be counted by eyes. Option explained above can also be used in place of this. It is useful for testing static meters (without pulse output) from displayed energy and for checking, register increments in Electromechanical/st atic meters (longer duration) test. Can be used with SML supplied E201 onwards meter only (Check compatibility of meters for this test with SML).

1 StartStop mode

- do -

Snap switch can only be used. User needs to press it once at start then count pulses or revolutions verbally and press it 2 nd time when entered pulses are over.

Zero (0)

1 StartStop

For testing a) Static meters without pulse output b) Regis ter increments in Electro mechanica l type of meters For testing SML meters (E201 onwards)

User should note down the initial reading of MUT (preferably in current off condition) then start the test by pressing Snap-switch. Note down final MUT reading and then press Snap-switch again to end the test. Now enter the differential MUT energy = (final-initial) in the Accuchek. It will give error directly.

2 Meter Commun ication

User should connect 9-pin end of the meter comms. Cord on Accuchek and optical end (PACT port) of the cable to the meter. It will detect meter and displays message either "Meter found" of "Meter not found". Rest of the operation is similar to the mode 1 above. Here, Accuchek will read start & end energy of the meter automatically, and not required to enter.

21 of 39

Entry Recheck

Suppose the user wants to verify the entries made by him/her and wants to correct them in case a wrong entry being made. For this when the ready is displayed press Enter key. By pressing Enter key the user can scroll through the entries made. Suitable headers described above will be displayed with each entry. Incase the user wants to amend a particular entry then the user has to leave the display at particular entry & then make the whole entry again. For instance, the user has entered test revolutions as 10 instead of 100. When the test revolutions are displayed on entry recheck, user should start making fresh entries i.e. 1 then 0 then 0 & then Enter. Now the Accuchek will accept 100 revolutions. J Roll Over mode

In roll over mode Overflow message appears when the Accuchek's 200-test data area (on completion of 200 tests) is filled completely and user starts a new test. This message helps in reminding user that the new test data will over -write the oldest test. In this situation general display after LCD test display will continue to show, number of test remaining = 0. The overflow display looks as follows:

To start a test user has to press 'Start' key again. Then the display changes to:

In above example snap-switch is connected hence message "Press Snap" is appeared, if Opto-scanner is there then "Scanner" will be displayed. Test will be started on pressing snap-switch (if snap-switch is connected) or on first pulse sensed by scanner (if Opto-scanner) is connected. Whenever Accuchek is read successfully using BCS, it will reset the number of test remaining to 200 . If power fails during read or communication breaks in between because of any reason then the test records will not reset and user can safely read the data again. Note:- The Accuchek has capacity to store 200 test data in its memory. These 200 test re sults always remain in its memory and may be uploaded with help of BCS software running on PC. Initially, display shows Test Remaining: 200 message indicating that you can store 200 test results into the memory. If you perform a new test now, it is store d into the memory and Test Remaining: 199 message is shown. Similarly, you can perform more test operations now. Each subsequent test operation decreases value of N by one where N is number of remaining tests. When you have performed 200 tests, the display shows Overflow message and a new test is saved in memory by replacing an old test results in FIFO (First In First Out) manner. Whenever, you perform a data upload operation, all test results available in the Accuchek memory are uploaded to BCS. However, the status being shown on display changes as follows: Uploading operation before completion of 200Nos. test results If the Upload operation is performed when display is showing Test Remaining: N message, the display status is not updated it still shows the same message- Test Remaining: N. Each subsequent test operation decreases value of N by one where N is number of remaining test results. However 200 test results available in Accuchek memory are uploaded to BCS (Always 200 test results only after Over Flow message is shown first time).

22 of 39

Uploading operation after completion of 200Nos. test results or on Overflow message If the Upload operation is performed when display is showing Over Flow message, Over Flow statuson display is cleared and now display shows - Test Remaining: 200 message again. Each subsequent test operation decreases value of remaining tests by one. In this case too, all 200 test results available in Accuc hek memory are uploaded to BCS.

Calculation of CT and PT ratio

There can be two possibilities when checking HT MUT with Accuchek HT+: (i) Meter (MUT) is secondary commissioned, means measuring energy for 110 Volt and 5 Amp and no factor (PT ratio & CT ratio) is applied on its reading as such. Electro -mechanical meters and secondary commissioned static meters will fall under this category. Here user has to enter CT ratio = 1.0 and PT ratio = 1.0 on the Accuchek HT+ as both MUT and Accuchek is measuring in same secondary units, i.e. 110 Volt and 5 Amps. MUT is primary commissioned for the installed CT-PT ratios, means it is giving its readings in primary units after incorporating CT & PT ratios. E.g. installed CT is of 200/5 A and installed PT is of 66 kV/110 V and MUT energy recording is for 66kV, 200A. Most of the static meters are commissioned for installed CT & PT ratios and gives reading directly in primary values. In this case, user has to calculate CT & PT ratio as follows:
CT ratio = ------------------------------------Primary Current

(ii)

Secondary Current

= 200/5 = 40
PT ratio = ------------------------------------Primary Voltage

Secondary Voltage

= 66 kV/110 V = 66000 V/110 V = 600 Here, user needs to enter CT ratio = 40 and PT ratio = 600 on the Accuchek HT+. Accuchek HT + will divide energy of the MUT by CT ratio and PT ratio before comparing with its own energy for computation of error. Accuchek HT + is measuring in secondary values, i.e. 110 V & 5A/1A. Rule 1: Accuchek HT+ will divide MUT energy (entered or calculated by itself) by CT ratio and PT ratio before calculating percentage error. It is done to bring MUT energy to its own scale. This rule is applicable whether Accuchek HT + is used with 1 Amp or 5 Amp current range. There can be five possibilities when checking LT MUT with Accuchek LT+:

(i)

As shown in the figure 6.1, MUT is recording energy for 415 Volt, 5A (secondary commissioned, CT ratio is not incorporated in its readings). Accuchek LT+ is connected on line using 100 A clamp-on CTs. Here user is checking combined accuracy of meter (MUT) and external CTs (100/5 A) means complete system. CT ratio needs to be entered on Accuchek LT + is 100/5=20.
External CT 100/5 A Accuchek Clamp-on CT 100 A

3-phase, 415 Volt 100 A line ACCUCHEK LT+

MUT

Fig: 6.1 Single line diagram of Accuchek LT+ Rule 2: Accuchek LT+, when used with Clamp-on CTs, it will multiply MUT en ergy by the CT ratio entered and then compare with its own energy to calculate percentage error of MUT.

24 of 39

In the above example if MUT is recording energy for 415 Volt, 100 A (primary commissioned, CT ratio incorporated in its energy readings). In such a situation user has to enter CT ratio 1 in the Accuchek LT+. Accuchek will multiply MUT energy by CT ratio (unity) and then compare with its own energy to find out percentage error of MUT.

(ii)

As shown below in single line diagram, MUT and Accuchek LT+ (using 1A \5A current range) are connected in series on secondary side of CT. MUT is recording energy for 415 Volt, 5A (secondary commissioned, CT ratio is not incorporated in its energy readings). User has to enter CT ratio 1, as both MUT and Accuchek LT + are measuring energy on the same scale (e.g 415V, 5A).
External CT 100/5 A

3-phase, 415\ 110 Volt100 A line 5 A connection

MUT

ACCUCHEK +

(iii)

In the above example if MUT is primary commissioned (CT ratio is incorporated in its energy recordings) means it is recording energy for 415 Volt, 100A. In such a situation user has to enter CT ratio 100/5=20 in the Accuchek LT +. It will divide MUT energy (entered or calculated by itself) by CT ratio = 20 and then compare with its own energy to find out percentage error of MUT.

Rule 3: Whenever, Accuchek LT+ is used with 1 Amp or 5 Amp current range then it will divide MUT energy by CT ratio to bring MUT energy to its scale to calculate percentage error of MUT.

(iv)

When, Accuchek LT+ is checking accuracy of whole current \ direct connected meters with clamp-on CTs, unity (1.0) CT ratio should be entered.

Performing a Test
1. Make the connections as mentioned in the previous section. Also, check thoroughly to ensure proper connections. 2. Ensure that the current is applied before starting the test. 3. Power up the Accuchek. It will follow the display routine as described earlier. If connections are faulty, proper error message will be displayed. Switch OFF the Accuchek & correct the connections. Again, switch it ON. 4. After usual display cycle, READY will be displayed. 5. Make suitable entries using keyboard as described in previous section. Select proper mode and connect Opto-scanner or snap-switch in the 4-pin slot provided (depends on the mode you have selected). In case of static meters without pulse output, make sure that Meter constant is entered as zero. 6. Press START key when all the entries have been made & READY is displayed.

Testing of Electro -Mechanical / Static Meter with pulse output using optical scanner- Pulse counter mode (Mode entered as 0)

Figure Opto-Sensor Unit Mounting

1. Position the switch of the sensor in appropriate position for disc/ static meter testing. 2. In case of disc meter testing, ensure, through proper adjustments, that the two green LED's focus their light on the disc. In case of static meter testing, ensure that the pulse output LED on MUT is directly under the Lens on the sensor. 3. At this stage the red indicator LED on the front face of the Opto sensor may or may not be lighted up depending on the position of the sensitivity control knob. Try rotating the sensitivity control knob. It will be observed that the LED turns off at a particular position of the knob as the knob is rotated clockwise and lights up again as the knob is rotated anti clockwise. Adjust the kn ob such that the position is just beyond the point where the LED turns off. You will observe that, as the mark on the disc crosses, the red LED lights up. If this does not happen or the LED shows flicker, try readjusting the knob until you get a clean single pulse on the crossing of the mark. You may have to readjust the distance of the sensor from the MUT for proper focusing and response. 4. Ensure that the sensor is giving satisfactory response for at least 15-20 mark crossings/ pulse outputs and then start the test by pressing 'Start' key. Following screen will be displayed:

5. After START is displayed, Accuchek detects the first pulse from the meter through Opto-scanner and displays the pulse count on the last line. In the example below first three lines are showing incremental energy displays for active, reactive lag and apparent energy respectively and last line is showing the 'Pulse count'.

26 of 39

6. 7.

On getting, subsequent pulses from opt-scanner 'Pulse count' keeps on decrements from 100 to 99, 98, 97, the n finally to 0. Test completes automatically when all the pulses have received for the fed revolutions (i.e. if you have fed revolutions as 100 then after receiving 100 number of pulses, the test completes) and % Error of MUT active energy import will be displayed as shown below:

Following heading for active energy and % error will be displayed: (a) Wh - I MUT Active energy (fundamental) in Import mode. (b) Wh - E MUT Active energy (fundamental) in Export mode. (c) Wh - IT MUT Active energy (Total) in Import mode (d) Wh - ET MUT Active energy (Total) in Export mode 8. You can see the energy logged by the Accuchek by pressing RESULT key. Its display example is shown below.

Percentage error is computed using following formulae: % Error =------------------------------------------- * 100

Accuchek Energy MUT Energy - Accuchek Energy

9.

Pressing 'Start' key, while percentage error or energies are on the display can start a new test. For going to READY mode press 'Enter' key. Testing of Electro-Mechanical / Static Meter with Snap-switch in 'Pulse' count mode (Mode entered as 0)

1. This test can be performed only when non-zero meter constant is entered. Connect snap switch and then press 'Start' key. Display will show header 'START' on the last line. Press the snap-switch as soon as red mark on disc crosses or pulse comes from MUT.

2. Repeat above process for every red mark cross over / pulse comes from MUT. On receiving first pulse from snap-switch, the display changes as follows and test will start. Last line is showing the pulse count remaining for completion of test.

27 of 39

Press Snap-switch on subsequent crossing of red mark. The 'Pulse count' on display changes to 19 then 18, 17, 16up to 0. 4. Test finishes automatically when you have pressed snap-switch for the fe d revolution number of times (i.e. if you have fed revolutions as 20 then after pressing snap-switch 20 number of times, the test completes) and % Error will be displayed. 5. You can see the energy logged by the Accuchek by pressing RESULT key. 6. Pressing 'Star t' key can start a new test. For going to READY mode press 'Enter' key.
3.

Testing of Electro -Mechanical Meter with Snap-switch in Start/Stop mode (Mode entered as 1)

1. 2. 3. 4.

After START is displayed, wait for the crossing of red mark. As soon as the red mark crosses, press the snap-switch. It will display 'Pulse count = 00001'. Count the subsequent crossing of the red mark, verbally (no need to press snap-switch on every red mark cross over). When the desired number of revolutions of the disc completes, press the snap-switch button again just as the red/black mark crosses the reference mark to stop the Accuchek recording. Test will finish & the Accuchek will display the % Error. 5. You can see the energy logged by the Accuchek by pressing RESULT key. D Testing of Static Meter without Pulse O/P.

The Accuchek will consider a meter as a Static meter without pulse output when the meter constant is entered as 0. In this case, it will assume the revolutions as 1 & the mode of snap-switch operation as Start/Stop mode and here it will not ask for the revolutions as well as energy type. It is also useful to find out the correctness of register/counter increments in all type of meters. In some of the meters, disc rotation/pulses given by meter is correct but corresponding increments in register/counter is incorrect. This test is helpful in finding out such fault. 1. Make sure that snap-switch is connected. Complete all entries on Accuchek and press 'Start' key, it will display START. 2. Note down the initial kWh reading of the MUT and then press Snap-switch to start the test. The Accuchek will display Pulse count = 00001

3. When you want to end the test, note down the final MUT readings and then press Snap-switch. Accuchek will prompt for enter unit of difference MUT energy. Code '0' is for Wh and '1' is for kWh. User can also see the meaning of code 0 or 1 on display by pressing respective key. Option will be selected only on pressing 'Enter' key. By default it selects unit Wh, hence if user wants to enter in Wh units then he/she can go to next display by pressing 'Enter' key and by default Wh units will get selected. NOTE: User is recommended to choose the units in kWh only when the consumed difference energy is more than 1 kWh for better accuracy results.

4. Calculate the difference of MUT energy during the test. This can be calculated by subtracting initial MUT reading from final MUT reading. Then enter it into the Accuchek in the units entered just before.

28 of 39

In case you want to enter 0 active energy then you can skip this by pressing 'Enter' and by default 0 will be taken by Accuchek.

5. On pressing the ENTER key, units for reactive+ (lag) will be asked then reactive lag energy, units of reactive - (lead) and

reactive lead energy and finally unit of apparent energy then apparent energy. Entering process is similar to one explained above. On entering apparent energy and pressing 'Enter' key, it will display percentage error .

6. User can see energy recorded by Accuchek by pressing 'RESULT' key . E Testing of Static Meter in meter communication mode This mode is useful for checking accuracy of static meters manufactured by us. Please check the compatibility of meters for this test, as meters with processor E201 or higher is only supporting this feature. Connect the nine pin male end of meter communication cord to Accuchek's nine pin female communication port and the other end of cord to the meter PACT port (optical port). Enter meter constant zero. Select test mode as 'Meter Comms' by pressing '2' in the mode selection option '1/2' as shown in the example screen 7.5.1

Screen: 7.5.1 On pressing 'Enter', key after selecting mode Accuchek will display message at the bottom line either ' Meter found' (screen 7.5.3) or 'Meter not found' (screen 7.5.2) depending on the connection and suitability of the meter. In case, it is showing message 'Meter not found' (screen 7.5.2) then user should check the communication cord connection between Accuchek and the MUT and connect the PACT port end properly. This message can also displayed if meter is not compatible. Accuchek + , will keep on retrying to establish communication with MUT until message 'Meter not found' is on the display .

Screen: 7.5.2

Screen: 7.5.3 Pressing 'Enter' while, message 'Meter not found' is on the display will select start-stop mode (mode=1). However, 'Enter' is pressed, while message, 'Meter found' is on the display will select meter communication mode (mode=2). On pressing 'Start', Accuchek will display message on the bottom line 'START Press Snap'. Pressing snap-switch will start the test. For ending test press, snap-switch again. Accuchek will display percentage error, and energy logged during the test can be seen by pressing 'Result' key.

29 of 39

NOTE (1) Maximum possible value of error is 100%, even if computed error is more than 100%, it is displayed as 100%. Examples above showing +0.01% error in active energy, -0.09% in reactive lag energy, 0.0% in reactive lead energy and +0.02% in apparent energy. (2) To print the results on printer, press SHIFT key and then press RESULT key, while the READY is on the display. Keys should be pressed one after another and not simultaneously. (3) A beep sound will be produced after 1 minute in all modes except meter communication mode, in which 4 minute after the test start. It will remind the user about the minimum test duration. If user finishes test before this time then the results are not so accurate and repeatable. (4) It is recommended to test 1A range MUT on 1A range of Accuchek, 5A MUT on 5A range of Accuchek and MUT of above 5A range with clamp-on CT of Accuchek to get full metrological advantage. (5) On power up it will not allow a new test to start by pressing 'Start' key until test mode is entered.

Reading Data

Accuchek is having memory provision. It can store test data of maximum of 200 meters without data getting lost or over written. To read the Accuchek by means of suitable B ase C omputer Software ( BCS ) named Accuchek.EXE follow the following steps. 1. Power On the Accuchek and bring it to 'Ready' mode. Make sure that communication cord is connected between Accuchek and Computer (The communication cord with 9 Pin D-type connector on the both sides is to be used for this purpose). 2. Run the BCS on computer. 3. Make sure Accuchek is in ready mode, i.e. when READY is displayed on the Accuchek, start reading Accuchek (Please refers to the instruction manual for BCS). 4. On successful reading through BCS, number of test remaining will resets to 200. That means Accuchek is ready again for storing 200 new test data. U ser can also dump data before completion of 200 tests to BCS. For details see section 5.9.J. Whenever, you perform a data upload operation, all test results available in the Accuchek memory are uploaded to BCS. However, the status being shown on display c hanges as follows: Uploading operation before completion of 200Nos. test results If the Upload operation is performed when display is showing Test Remaining: N message, the display status is not updated it still shows the same message- Test Remaining: N. Each subsequent test operation decreases value of N by one where N is number of remaining test results. However 200 test results available in Accuchek memory are uploaded to BCS (Always 200 test results only after Over Flow message is shown first time). Dosage Testing

This test is useful for checking register increments in M eter U nder T est (MUT). Amount of energy for which he/she wants to test MUT, should be fed to Accuchek. A port named 'dosage port' is provided which have potential free contacts. An external setup can be made by connecting 'contactor' through dosage port and current circuit through 'contactor' which is going to MUT and Accuchek. When Accuchek records the fed amount of energy after test start, it will disconnect the current circuit by opening dosage port. User can check increments in MUT register, and can compare with the energy fed to Accuchek. User can start this test by pressing 'SHIFT' and then 'DELETE' key. Accuchek will ask user to choose the vector for which he \she wants to perform the test by pressing choice 0/1/2/3. Choice is not selected until the 'ENTER' key is pressed. Zero is for active, 1 is for reactive_lag, 2 is for reactive_lead and 3 is for apparent energy dosage test.

Note down the initial reading of MUT. On the selection of energy type Accuchek, calib LED also starts blinking for that selected unit. Example below showing selection of active energy by pressing '0' key.

Now amount of energy is to be entered through keyboard for, which test is desired. In the example below user has entered 465.56 Wh energy for dosage test.

Test will start on pressing the snap-switch. Accuchek will close dosage port on getting pulse from snap-switch. Now display will show you decrementing energy on the 3rd line and the fed dosage energy on the 4th line as shown in the next display example. rd line Wh=237.21 is the energy remaining to register at this instant to complete the test and bottom line is showing the On the 3 amount of dosage energy 465.56 Wh.

As soon as the dosage energy recorded by Accuchek, it will open the dosage port and user can check the increments in MUT energy by subtracting initial reading from final reading. Current will be switched on simultaneously in Accuchek and MUT on closing of dosage port (on pressing of snap-switch) and switched-off automatically by Accuchek when the fed dosage energy is registered by Accuchek. Following heading for active energy can be displayed as Wh = Accuchek active energy (decrementing) is fundamental type. Wh T = Accuchek active energy (decrementing) is Total type.

Important Precautions

The following points must be given special attention: 1. Operate the Accuchek+ within its recommended voltage and current limits. Applying excessively high voltages or currents may damage the equipment. 2. If you have connected current on 5A socket and selected 1A range through keyboard then it will display wrong values of electrical parameters. Do the selection again through keyboard and then start a new test. 3. Ensure that all the potentials and all the currents are applied before you start the test. 4. During the test, do not change the power factor from lag to lead. 5. The Accuchek + is protected against internal faults by 200mA fuses. If all the connections have been made correctly, and the Accuchek + still indicates problems in the voltage circuits, it is likely that a fuse has blown. Replace the fuse. Four spare fuses are provided with the Accuchek +. Fuses of 200-mA rating, slow blow 20-mm glass type should be used. 6. There are no user serviceable parts inside the Accuchek +. Do not open and attempt to repair the instrument. 7. The minimum current threshold for the Accuchek is kept 0.6 % of Ibasic. Thus, if the Accuchek + is operated at the current level below this then it will display missing current in connection check display. 8. The maximum number of tests a user can do without downloading the data into BCS is 200. After 200 tests are done without, downloading an overflow message will be given with a buzzer sound indicating the user to download the data. 9. While entering the CT Ratio, please take care of the fact that CT Ratio is the transformation ratio looking from the primary side of the CT to the secondary of the meter i.e. if the CT is of 100/5 A, then CT Ratio = 20 should be entered. 10. The Test duration must be at least for 5 MINUTES for better metrological performance. 11. The Dosage mode relay contact rating is 240V AC, 5VA always use a interposing relay of coil rating 240 V AC & coil power less then 5 VA while using dosage mode. Such relays are available from OMRON, OEN, PLA make and are locally available in electronics hardware store. Driving directly high current contacts capacity contactors can damage the internal Dosage relay. Maintenance

Please ensure that the mating surfaces of the jaw of the clamp on ct are free of dirt or foreign matter. In case they are rusted, gently clean with sewing m/c oil or CRC 2-26, to prevent it from corrosion.
Care and precaution in handling of clamp on CTs The clamp on CTs that provided with your Accuchek is a very important sensing element of the product. It needs suitable care and precaution in handling, in order to maintain its precision and accuracy. Good handling can ensure continued satisfactory operation of your equipment. The Current Transformer operates by principle of magnetic induction. The current in the primary conductor produces an Ampere-Turn, which is balanced by an equal and opposite Ampere-tur n in the secondary. The secondary current is however not exactly proportional to the primary current due to imperfections in the CT (called as ratio and phase errors). The Accuchek has the intelligence to compensate for these inaccuracies to a great extent. But uncertain errors introduced by varying air gaps in the CT, may exhibit as errors. It is therefore, very important to ensure that the air gap in the CT remains as far as possible constant from usage to the next. Following good practices can help you ensure accurate, precise and reproducible performance of the Accuchek over long periods: -

1. Always keep the jaws of the CT clean. Dust particles can create havoc with the phase error of CTs. It is recommended that
the CT be kept away from dust and packed suitably in the case provided after use. In no case should the CT be left in dusty environment for long periods. of rust that might appear on the CT jaw faces. However, care must be taken to carefully brush off any remnants of the eraser rubbings from the jaws before use. Do not use water, alcohol, or any other solvents to clean the jaw surface. swiveling action of the jaws free and reduces variation of air gap from one operation to the other. CTs.

2. Ensure that the jaws of the CTs are not rusted. It is recommended to use ordinary pencil erasers for rubbing off minor signs

3. It is highly recommended to operate the jaws several times before actually starting the tests. This helps in making the 4. The air gap in the CTs may be disturbed by unreasonable shocks. Precaution must be taken to prevent any shocks to the 5. The clamp on CT should be used in the hanging position from the wire

Appendix B: Opto Scanner Details

Introduction: The Accuchek+ Scanner is general purpose sensing device for Disk rotation in Ferraris Wheel Meters & Calibrating LED pulses in static meters. It has two modes of operation viz. reflective mode and light emitting mode. Operating the miniature toggle switch can change the mode of operation. The sensitivity of the scanner can be adjusted to an optimum value by rotating the potentiometer knob on the front of the scanner. Reflective Mode: In this mode the scanner detects the calibration mark on the rotating disk Ferraris meter. It uses a modulated high intensity visible green convergent beam to detect the calibration mark by reflection. When properly focused on the disk, it can detect the calibration marks accurately, even in the presence of fluorescent & other ambient light conditions. Light Emitting Mode: This mode is used with electronic meters with calibrating LED outputs. The light from LED is focused on the wide band photodiode, for detection. The maximum frequency of the output can be as high as 200Hz, unmodulated.
