Despite of the limited area of forest lands and its environmental values in
Iran, sustainability forests are threated by traditional and industrial tree
harvesting. Iran has a great potential for plantation with fast growing
trees like poplar and Eucalypt species. Although the plantations in the
country has been carried out by public and private sectors since forty
years, but preparing of a comprehensive plan and strategy program is still
essential, in which the tasks of different sectors should be considered.
For this purpose, the division of poplar and fast growing species of
Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands has prepared the national
strategic program for developing plantations in the country with
cooperative of educative, executive, private sectors. The aim of this plan
is to meet yhe wood and cellulos demand of the country within next 20
years.
Working groups consisting of experts from different sectors have studied
the present status, problems and barriers of the plantations from
ecological, organizational and managerial point of view. Provincial
working plan is prepared considering regional capacities and potentials.
Besides executive and research priorities are determined for different
ecological regions.
