Item: Folder Design Elements and Template Modification Behavior

Description: A developer modifies a template and expects it to stay as designed
Categories: Development
Software: Lotus Notes
Version: 6, 7, 8
OS: Windows

Background:

A developer modified a template and removed a folder expecting it to stay in the databases. To
understand the process better I needed to see the results after each change. Just to note a change in
behavior, in R5 the default for a new folder is that Prohibit Design Refresh is not checked. In R6 and
later, so far, the default is that Prohibit Design Refresh is set.

Procedure:

Initially, I created a test.ntf with 8 untitled folders with modifications to the switches concerning Prohibit
Design Change and Propagate the prohibition of design change. There are two settings for a total of four
combinations. I doubled the folders so that I could later delete half of them to watch the results in the
database.

After after the initial db design is created I created shared folders (Personal 1..4) in the db to see the
impact of design refresh and replace. After the refresh deleted 3 & 4 , I re-created them to get the results
of the replace.
