Adolescent Plastic surgery

Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, which pleases the human sight. The definition of beauty has had a significant and obvious twist through out the years. One of the points that have scarcely changed in the desire to look beautiful is the urge to follow a fashion trend. Fashion magazines and fashion shows have played an essential role into changing the vogue of the beauty image through their own perspective of it. What has really had a major change has been the figure appearance of recognized models, from being voluptuous to appearing quite scrawny. Therefore, the fashion industry is the principal influence among young ages. How does plastic surgery come into role with this? Teenagers have been principally influenced into looking up to plastic surgery as their most favorable solution to achieve the fashion-medias interpretation of flawless beauty. Overview of Adolescent Cosmetic Surgery Plastic surgery has gone from primarily being a treatment of reconstruction, to wounded soldiers to becoming a cosmetic solution to people who are not thoroughly pleased with their appearance. This type of surgery has had a remarkable increase on its requests, to the point that such increases in plastic surgery demand make it quite difficult to find a recognized profile that has not acquired plastic surgery of some type. According to associations of plastic surgeons,

Vogin, 2004) In previous years the approximation of procedures made on adolescents per year has been around 219,000. Accumulated statistics done by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), have shown that over the last several years plastic-surgery-demands have quite changed. (ASAPS, 2013) Now in present time teenagers are looking after cosmetic surgery with the intention of fitting in with the general direction in which fashion is developing. In accordance to Dr. Darrik Antell, the increase of adolescent plastic surgery has had an increase worthy of attention. Dr. points out that most teenagers acquiring surgery have more influence than just the fashion industry, but growing with parents whom have been under cosmetic procedures is a great impact. Other statistics done in the passed years show that most teenagers reveal they would definitely change something in regard with their image, to look like models, if they had the possession of the money needed for the completion of these surgeries. (Liane Beam Wansbrough, 2003) Focus This year the increase of the people which consider cosmetic-plastic surgery to be an acceptable subject to our society has grown from previous years. Currently our society finds it fair well for aged women to acquire cosmetic surgery as a favorable solution to their superficial aging problems. Should the response of adolescent plastic surgery taken the same way? Researchers from the Ruhr-University Bochum and the University of Basel have learned that the majority of the patients of plastic surgery pointed out to be able to enjoy life to the point where they feel satisfied with it. These researchers also

discovered that the percentage increase of the patients was significantly altered.

outcome, why would there be a problem in the acquisition of plastic surgery? The adolescents that undergo cosmetic surgery are methodically different from the rest. These teenagers have to go through some tests that determine their eligibility in regard with cosmetic-plastic surgery. Test are made in order for these adolescents to set their goals, and be aware of the influences that have lead them to the drastic decision of a permanent appearance change. The teenager must have realistic goals set, along with maturity. Surgeons have admitted that majority of the cases were teenagers are looking forward to plastic surgery have to do with the teenager expecting to end up looking like a celebrity they like, in most cases the celebrities tend to be fashion models. In a debate on the role fashion plays among plastic surgery the author describes how every magazine from the fashion industry has a section on which they show how to be more beautiful by making your lips fuller, making your self look thinner, etc. The author also brings out the implicit and explicit messages this type of media carries. These magazine sections always tend to talk about all the ways our bodies go wrong and how to use clothes to hide every imperfection and correct every physical flaw. (Winona Dimeo, 2013) Fashion magazines are often insisting to their audience, which happen to be mostly teenagers, the idea that a fashion trend must be followed in ordered to be accepted among society. This type of fashion media always talks about how celebrities look bad if they gain weight and they are constantly judging it. There for this shows an explanation for the statistics that show how the high rate in

which most teenagers admit they would acquire a tummy tuck to achieve perfection. (Liane Beam Wansbrough, 2003)
Awareness The final decisions made when it comes to following a fashion style, the makeup they decide to use, whether or not they want to exercise that day, or whether they will go the easier and faster route into plastic surgery, is obviously their choice at the end. But what role should the fashion industry play with their magazines and the influence with all those commercials of their perspective of flawless beauty? Should these types of media interfere and influence the permanent decisions of the teenage-appearance? (Winona Dimeo, 2013) Adolescent plastic

surgery has had an obvious and significant demand increase due to the fashion industry and their flawless-beauty advertisements. This shows the importance adolescents give to fashion and its outlook on what perfection should appear. The
Associations of Plastic Surgeons have shown through statistics how plastic surgery among teenagers has a significant increase in its percentage due to the new beauty trend. This shows how people, principally teenagers, extremely look up to fashion, particularly idolizing the appearance of its models.
