(b) Describe the influence of temperature and pressure on the oxygen transfer rate in fermentation broths. 2 Write short notes on: (a) Surface stretch theory. (b) Film theory. (a) What are the different types of viscometers used for viscosity measurement? (b) Explain the construction and working principle of impeller viscometer and coaxial cylinder rotary viscometer. Write short notes on power requirements for; (a) Ungassed newtonion fluids. (b) Ungassed non newtonion fluids. The thermal contact conductance at the interface of two 1 cm thick aluminum plates is measured to be 1000 W/m2 Determine the thickness of aluminum plate whose thermal resistance is equal to the thermal resistance of the interface between the two plates. (a) What is the significance of heat transfer coefficient? Write the units of the heat transfer coefficient. (b) Hot oil is used to heat water, flowing at rate of 0.1 kg/sec from 40 to 80 in a counter flow double pipe heat exchanger. For an overall heat transfer coefficient of 300 W/m2 . Find the heat transfer area if oil enters at 105 at leaves at 70 . Discuss about two basic models for mass transfer at a fluid fluid interface. The gas CO2 is diffusing at steady state through a tube 0.20 m long having a diameter of 0.01 m and containing nitrogen at 298 K. The total pressure is constant at 101.32 KPa. The partial pressure of CO2 is 456 mm Hg at one end and 76 mm Hg at another. The diffusivity is DAB is 1.67 x 10-5 m2/s at 298 K.
