Abstract Objectives$to investigate, in vitro, the effect of some analgesic compounds, %hich inhi#it the activity of cycloo&ygenase isoen'ymes, on the morphological transition of Candida albicans from unicellular #udding yeast to a filamentous form( )he potential e&perimental implications of this study include the uses of non-selective C*+-inhi#itors in studying the phases of C. albicans gro%th, and to study the synergistic effect of com#ined uses of antifungal agents and C*+-inhi#itor( Moreover, clinical implication of this study is to add nonselective C*+ inhi#itors to antifungal agents to get synergism or additive effect and to avoid drug to&icity in management of fungal infection Method$ C. albicans A)CC 1,"-1 cultured in .a#ouraud/s de&trose #roth supplemented %ith ",0 human serum for 1" h at -, 2C in the presence or a#sence of tramadol of 3Cl, 4etorlac tromethamine, piro&icam and acetaminophen at concentrations 5("67",, 8g9m:( )he morphological transition of C. albicans %as assessed microscopically

in terms of #udding and hyphae formation, daily for four consecutive days( Results$ results sho%ed that neither tramadol 3Cl nor acetaminophen produced significant inhi#itory effects on the morphological transition of C. albicans( ;etorlac tromethamine e&erted inconsistent effect on the gro%th of fungus cells( )he inhi#itory effect of piro&icam %as o#served at concentrations 6,71,, 8g9m: and sustained for four days( Analgesic compounds %hich inhi#it peripheral C*+ en'yme li4e piro&icam are more li4ely to inhi#it the morphological transition of C. albicans, %hile compounds that inhi#it central C*+ li4e acetaminophen or not inhi#it C*+ en'yme-li4e tramadol 3Cl do not inhi#it the gro%th of fungus cells( Conclusion$ Piro&icam, a nonselective C*+ en'yme inhi#itors plays a role in the morphological transition of C. albicans( Piro&icam sho%ed significant inhi#itory and sustained effects on the #ranching and #ud formation of Candida(
