Media Center Improvements

ISSUE # 1: FROM THE SURVEY RESULTS It would be great if it was not near an outside door. It is tempting for people to use it as a hallway, and this can disrupt classes. SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Replace the existing door with a glass door. This would allow students and teachers to see what was going on in the media center with the door closed. This would help them decide whether it is a good time to cut through or go around. It would also cut down on noise from the stairwell.

The wooden door would be replaced by a glass door.

ISSUE # 2 AND SUGGESTION: FROM THE SURVEY RESULTS A curtain in the nook area to allow students to do small performances or play acting In speaking with the media specialist, she said that a curtain would also help cut down on noise and visual stimulation from outside the well. This would help the younger children be less distracted.

This temporary partition would be replaced by a heavy curtain.

ISSUE #3: FROM SPEAKING WITH MEDIA CENTER PERSONNEL The custom bookshelves are nice, but not quite tall enough to fit some of the picture books in the primary fiction section. These books have to be tilted to fit. SUGGESTION: Replace or alter these bookshelves by increasing the distance between each shelf by two inches. This issue is the least likely to be resolved quickly, due to the expense and time involved.

Books must lean to fit.

Facility Plan Modifications

Replace temporary partition with permanent, heavy curtain. Change height of shelving to accommodate tall childrens books.

Replace wooden door with single glass door.
