I want to thank the Board of Alderman finance sub-committee for spending the long hours needed to analyze my proposed budget. The day I took office I started working on a fair and honest budget for the taxpayers of Ansonia. I asked all department heads with the exception of the Board of Education to submit their budget at a 4% decrease over the previous year. I want to thank them for their diligence in following through with that request, Mayor Cassetti said. The mayors budget will lower the mill rate .72 said William Nimons City Comptroller. The city faced unique factors that made it harder for us to lower the budget further. Ansonia suffered a $5 million dollar loss in its grand list in addition to a lower tax collection rate. Those factors made it impossible to further lower the mill rate without affecting city services, Nimons added. Weeks of reviews, discussions and meetings regarding budget proposals from city department heads has resulted in the finance subcommittee passing the mayors proposed budget in a bipartisan manner. This budget demonstrates a strong commitment on the part of Mayor Cassetti and his administration to help reduce the taxpayers burden the Chairman of the Finance subcommittee Lorie Vaccaro said. Lorie further explained, This budget is balanced and fair. Department heads agreed that they could absorb a budget decrease without negatively affecting City services to the residents. The remaining budget process is as follows. February 11, 2014 The full Board of Aldermen will meet to consider the recommendations of its Finance Committee and vote to adopt a proposed City Budget for 2014-2015. The proposed City Budget will be sent to the Board of Apportionment and Taxation for review and approval.

February - May

The Board of Apportionment and Taxation will review the proposed budget adopted by the Board of Aldermen and hold another series of public meetings with Department Leaders, as necessary.
