My Philosophy of Education

Nadine Block MY EQUATION OF EDUCATION !

! Represents love ! Passion for teaching and love for education ! Accepting and appreciating all students no matter who they are, where they come from or what they can or cannot do ! Represents togetherness and mutual respect ! A classroom is like a family in many ways and it is imperative, for its success that students and teachers work and learn together and have respect for one another ! Represents open communication ! Creating a classroom that allows everyone to freely express their opinions or ideas in a nonjudgmental way creates an environment that is filled with positivity, is safe, and all members feel a sense of belonging and comfort !

WHAT A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT LOOKS LIKE

Core Ideals: standards and values in the classroom should remain consistent so students know what to expect and what is expected of them Ambience: the classroom should be a dynamic, fun and engaging place that exerts creativity Expectations: involving students in creating the classroom rules makes students accountable for their actions Relativity: learning about and from students allows teaching material and classroom activities to be relative to their interests

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT TEACHING

! My academic struggles have taught me that in order to really support a student, you need to know who they are ! I want to educate and inspire young minds to be active members of their society and community ! Creating a positive learning environment encourages students to love, respect, and appreciate themselves and those around them ! Our first priority as teachers is to make the classroom fit the student, not the student fit the classroom

WORDS OF WISDOM
Parker Palmer said that one of the essential dimensions of successful teaching is an air of hospitality which helps create an invitational classroom. Hospitality in his words means receiving each other, our struggles, our newborn ideas, with openness and care. According to Palmer, when participants are engaged in this way, there are positive consequences for instructors and students.

Dont talk, just act. Dont say, just show. Dont promise, just prove.
