Welcome Year 4 Red Parents 2014

A PRAYER FOR PARENTS

Most loving Father, the example of parenthood, teach us what to give and what to withhold. Show us when to reprove and when to praise. Make us gentle and considerate yet firm and watchful.Keep us from weak indulgence, or from great severity. Give us the courage to be disliked sometimes by our children, when we must do necessary things which are displeasing to their eyes. Give us the imagination to enter into their world in order to understand and guide them. Give us all the virtues we need to lead them by word and example in the path of righteousness. Amen.

Year Four Program Term 1

Literacy

The following, are some activities from our literacy program that I will be using to develop your childs reading, writing, speaking and listening skills:

This year grade 4 is adopting the Reading to Learn program. It is based on studying good examples of text types which are then pulled apart and reproduced both as a group and hen individually. This will form our reading, spelling, writing and grammar for the year.
Speaking and listening is part of the daily routines of the class during our morning session as well as specific oral tasks through out the year.

Reading in class will also be part of our weekly routine, which will be in the form of individual and partner reading. This book will be part of our library borrowing each week.

Maths
Students will be involved in a wide range of mathematical experiences during this semester, which cater to a wide variety of needs in the classroom. We use a program called Envision Maths.

Science
Science this semester will be based on a program called Primary Connections and the unit they will be investigating is Plants Alive. This unit provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of lifecycles and environments of living things, focusing on various plants.

Health
Our health program focuses on bullying. It is called Friendly Schools Plus and aims to inform and educate students about bullying behaviours and what they can do in these types of situations. This program is the upgrade to the previous program, it uses similar terms however is more up to date and focuses on very relevant and real situations. Parent information will be provided later in the term.
