Course Description In Physical Education, students acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. The student exhibits a physicallyactive lifestyle and understands the relationship between physical activity and health throughout the lifespan.

Course Goals and Objectives Students will be able to: use internal and external information to modify movement during performance; describe appropriate practice procedures to improve skill and strategy in a sport; accept the roles and decisions of officials; research and describe the historical development of an individual sport; analyze and evaluate personal fitness status in terms of cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition; establish realistic yet challenging health-related fitness goals for selected individual sports; explain the effects of eating and exercise patterns on weight control, self-concept, and physical performance; respond to challenges, successes, and failures in physical activities in socially appropriate ways; accept successes and performance limitations of self and others and exhibit appropriate behavior/responses

CLASS EXPECTATIONS AND GRADING PROCEDURES 1. For each class, students are required to: Complete the fitness component Participate in the days class activity Dress according to the PE dress code

2. The grade for the course will depend on the amount of points earned in class each day. Each class is worth ten (10) points. The point breakdown is:

Dress out according to PE code (5) five points Activity component (3) three points Effort (1) one point Attitude/Sportsmanship (1) one point

3. All students will start off with 100 for the grading period and may or may not be deducted points according to the point break down. Grades will be converted into the schools letter grading system. (For example, 100-90=A, 89-80=B, 79-75=C, 74-70=D, 69-below=F). 4. The Physical Education Dress Code: Each student must change into a T shirt, elastic waist shorts, socks, and sneakers. Clothing must be free of offensive signs, slogans, or language, and not advertise alcohol or illegal substances. Clothing must be appropriately sized and worn appropriately. 5. Make-up classes: One make-up class consists of 60 minutes of time made up during activity/lunch period. You will not be allowed to make up cut classes. Make-up classes can only be made up on Monday and Tuesday in the field house. Swim make-ups will be held Thurs. and Fri. dates will be posted. The time and date of the make-up class must be documented by the PE teacher on duty in the make-up log book. Classes may NOT be made up during school midterm or final exam periods. Swimming and fitness testing are required units and must be made up within their respective areas. 6. Medical Accommodations: All medical notes must be cleared through the school clinic prior to the start of class. Medical notes from doctors, athletic trainers, and physical therapists will be honored.

Class Policies

Accommodations Students with special needs/disabilities should discuss specific accommodations with the instructor as soon as possible so that your needs can be met appropriately. Please communicate your needs in writing by the second-class meeting.

Assignments and Projects: All assignments are to be turned in when entering the class. No late work will be accepted.

Attendance/Participation/Attire:

Students are expected to attend, participate, and actively engage in all scheduled class meetings. The nature of the class requires participation. 5 points will be deducted from

participation for not coming dressed appropriately during class. A doctors note will be required if you are not able to participate for a medical reason. Students who are absent will receive a total of 0 points for the day until they have made up their excused absence only. Students should arrive before class begins and leave only after the instructor has dismissed the class. Students will not be allowed to make up absences due to tardies. Students will just lose points. 2 tardies=1 absence 4 tardies=2 absences 6 tardies=3 absences 7 tardies=4 absences

Students must dress safely and appropriately to participate in our classroom. Appropriate attire includes the following guidelines: a. b. c. d. e. . Cell phones and all other electronic devices should be turned off and put away during the entirety of class.
