Why?Course Description
This studio-based course emphasizes both students' creative process and their final artistic product in 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional arts forms. As students develop their craft they will conduct thoughtful inquiry into their own thinking and art making processes, recording this learning in written and visual formats. All stages of the creative process must be thoroughly documented and evidence of in-depth research into chosen areas of interest and ideas for work must be shown and explained in detail. At the end of this class, you will be able to

Classroom Expectations
Students are expected to encourage a positive learning environment. This means o Students will respect each other, their teacher, their school, and themselves. o Students use positive and helpful language to create classroom unity. o Be responsible. Students are PROACTIVE not REACTIVE. Follow classroom procedures. If you are unsure, ask a classmate first, then the teacher. Absent students are responsible for makeup work!

YOU CLEAN UP NICE 1) Make sure your station is CLEAN and presentable at the end of each day. Throw away any trash and place materials where they belong. 2) Put away project and journals at the end of each class. 3) Do not touch artwork that does NOT belong to you. 4) Clean up quickly and quietly

Classroom rules
No food, drinks, or gum chewing in class. Do not talk while others are talking. Raise your hand. NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES (unless teacher chooses a specific activity) Be on time. Be IN your seats AT the bell quiet and ready to learn with materials on desk. Do not start packing up until after the bell has rung. Follow school rules

Required Materials
Pens and pencils Sketchpad notebook (art journal) o Specific for drawing/sketching Fine point black pens (The pen needs to be able to make clean dots when placed on paper.) Sharpie pens (not markers) are easy to locate in stores. Agenda

Bathroom passes
You will receive 3 bathroom passes per quarter. They are worth 5 points each. If you have them by the end of the semester, you earn 5extra points! You will also receive 1 homework pass per semester.

What to do when youre absent!


All assignments are due on the date they are assigned. Due dates will be given with the assignment either orally or written. It is your responsibility to know the due dates. If a calamity day occurs on a day an assignment is due, be prepared to turn it in on the day we resume class. If you have an excused absence, the assignment for that day is due on the day you return to school. If you have an excused absence on the day an assignment was given, you have two days for each missed day to make up the assignment. If you have an unexcused absence on the day an assignment is given or due, you will be ineligible to make up work and receive a zero.

You are responsible for getting notes, handouts, and assignments from the day of your absence. Handouts will be kept in the absent folder for one week. Check the absent folder and ask 2 classmates what assignments you missed before asking me.

Grading
The grade for this course will be a combination of weighted grades. Use power school to check your grades. Grades are updated on a regular basis.

It is important to remember that students need to bring their best effort to class. Do not get frustrated. Technique takes time, but through focus and practice improvement can be made in everyone!
