When genetic modication goes wrong

By: Jake Collins and Gerek Simonis.

Steve was thirsty one day and instead of buying a water like he usually did he decided to try Red Bull. Steve unknowing of the genetic modications in Red Bull. Was unaware of the affects genetic modication could have on his body.

Steve only days later started to notice 2 small bumps on his back but ignored them thinking they were just sores from working in the mines.

He thought nothing of it. He went back to work day after day and kept drinking the red bull to give him energy. The bumps kept getting larger and larger and hurt more and more. One day he tried to put his mining shirt on and it wouldn't t. So he decided to go into town and see a doctor the next morning.

Steve: Doctor! these bumps on my back keep growing and they hurt a lot.! ! Doctor: Well steve let me take a look... It appears to be a major problem, we are going to have to run some blood tests just to make sure we aren't missing anything important.! ! Steve went home and kept going about his normal routine without a shirt. the bumps were getting fuzzier by the day. ! ! *3 Day later*! ! Steve walked back into town to go to the doctors ofce. ! ! Doctor: Steve have you been eating or drinking anything unusual lately? ! ! Steve: Nothing really new other than steak, pork chops and bread, just the usual. I did start drinking Red Bull, it gives me energy.! ! Doctor: I'm sorry to say Steve that drink is giving you more than energy. Its giving you wings! ! ! Just then Steve's wings sprouted and ew. !

Doctor: That red bull you have been drinking must have had some sort of genetic mutation inside of the cells. The nucleus inside of the cells must have been modied with some sort of wing gene. The scientists over at redbull must have cut out part of a gene for the drink and changed it into the genetic code for wings. The code was probably targeted by endonucleases to cut out other unwanted parts of the gene and cut it out in certain spots to accidentally form the wing code. It was no accident that the gene was then inserted into plasmid to produce millions of copies which then were isolated inside your drinks. You ingested these genes and have grown wings of your own! I have diagnosed you with pteroitis This is similar to a disease found in fruit ys called antennapedia. Steve: So Red Bull does give you wings? Doctor: Apparently it does Steve. Steve: So what do we do now? Doctor: Well I am going to prescribe some Glybera which is a gene therapy drug. In an attempt to x the problem otherwise we will resort to direct injection of CRISPR in an attempt to remove the wings by removing a section of DNA and replacing it. Unless Steve you want to keep the wings...

Doctor: Although these methods have been known to sometimes cause complications so if you want to keep the wings that is probably the way to go. Steve: Am I able to get back to you on this at a later date? Doctor: Of course Steve take your time. Steve returned about a week later and decided for the sake of keeping his job in the mines he would get the wings removed. Doctor: Alright Steve here is the medication we discussed earlier come back in a month and we will see if CRISPR injection is needed. So Steve came back in a month but only after the wings had disappeared.

Doctor: Well Steve it looks like you're cured of pteroitis. Have a nice wingless life. Stop drinking Red Bull too, seriously even without genetic modication that stuff is dangerous.
