INTRODUCTION
This Instruction Manual Applied Operating Instructions explains the procedures for operating and maintaining the Fujifilm Digital Minilab FRONTIER 390 SP2500 and LP2500P, as well as precautions for use. To ensure proper use and optimum performance of the SP2500 and LP2500P Digital Minilab and optional 135ANL (NF2500AG), read this manual thoroughly. This manual should be kept in a fixed place near the machine so that it can be referred to any time a point needs to be clarified. In addition to this instruction manual, the following separate volumes have been prepared: Basic Operating Instructions: This volume describes the basic operating instructions not included in these Applied Operating Instructions.
Condition Setup and Maintenence: This volume describes the condition setup and maintenence procedures for the SP2500 and LP2500P Digital Minilab. For the optional Multi-film Carrier MFC10Y, Pricing Unit PU800B or Variety Print Service, refer to the appropriate Instruction Manual. The optional automatic negative loading system NF2500AG is called the 135ANL.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY AND USE CONDITIONS

Before using the equipment, carefully read and thoroughly understand the precautions set forth in this section. The safety precautions are classified into WARNING and CAUTION categories. Supplementary operating instructions are given under IMPORTANT and NOTE categories. These four categories are defined as follows. WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury or even death. CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. It may also be used to alert against unsafe practices and property-damage-only accidents.
IMPORTANT IMPORTANT describes improper handling procedures that may adversely affect performance or damage the equipment.

Safety
1.1.1
Basic Operating Precautions
When accessing the machine interior for inspection or servicing, turn the power switch to STANDBY, place the built-in circuit breaker in the OFF (K) position, and turn OFF the main power circuit breaker. Inspecting or servicing the inside of the machine with the main power circuit breaker left ON may expose personnel to hazardous conditions and damage the machine. If the machine emits smoke, generates an abnormal sound or becomes unduly hot on its external surfaces, immediately stop using it, set the power switch to STANDBY, place the built-in circuit breaker in the OFF (K) position, turn OFF the main power circuit breaker, and contact your local dealer. z Do not modify the machine without permission from the manufacturer because safety assurance features and other essential functions may be impaired. If the machine needs to be modified, contact your local dealer. x Never remove covers or other parts that are screwed down to avoid the risk of electric shock or injury to personnel. If any parts need to be unscrewed, contact your local dealer. Use only Fujifilm-recommended replacement parts. IMPORTANT If parts other than those recommended by Fujifilm are used, the warranty will be voided. z Do not operate the machine with cover open/close sensors forced ON while the covers are open. These sensors serve as safety switches. If they are forced ON, the system mistakenly assumes that the open covers are closed making the machine operative, and this may expose personnel to hazardous conditions and damage the machine. Never position objects in close proximity to light sources or processing or dryer section cover vents. Doing so will impair machine ventilation, thereby causing temperature control problems. x Do not stare at the light emitted from the light source for prolonged periods of time because this may damage your eyesight. c Before replacing the scanning lamp or reflector, wait until the lamp cools. Observe this precaution to avoid burns. v Do not use spray cleaners containing combustible substances as these constitute fire hazard.

Caution regarding Electric Shock

Utmost care should be taken as the machine is connected to a 200/210/ 220/230/240V AC power source. Avoid the possibility of electric shock by noting the following: Never operate the machine if it is wet. Never operate the machine if the surrounding floor is wet. Ensure that the electrical earth connection is permanently made. Ensure that all cables are undamaged and correctly connected.

Laser Radiation Safety
This product is a Class 1 laser device for which biological hazards have not been established. Follow all warnings on the device label and in the manual.

The adjustment of controls or the performance of procedures in ways not specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure. The exposure section front cover and upper side door of this device are provided with safety interlocks which prevent leakage of laser radiation when the covers are opened. Do not press the safety interlocks when these sections are opened. Otherwise, laser emissions may occur, resulting in serious hazards.

Protective housing labels and its position required by the Section J of Chapter 1 of 21 CFR, issued by the U.S.FDA are shown in the subsections 1.2.2 and 1.8.1.
REFERENCE: The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) is a U.S. government agency that has authority over the safety of major high-energy-radiating products.

Room Conditions
Temperature: 15 to 30C (59 to 86F)

Ambient room temperatures above 30C (86F) or below 15C (59F) will destabilize processing and replenisher solution temperatures to the detriment of processing performance. Pay special attention to room temperatures in wintertime and maintain solution temperatures within designated ranges.

Relative Humidity: 30% to 70%

Relative humidities above 70% will result in inadequate printer paper transport or improper paper drying, producing abnormal prints. Maintain the ambient room relative humidity within the range of 30% to 70% RH at all times.
Ventilation
Provide a vent close to the processor section and maintain adequate ventilation.
Illumination: 500 lux or lower

Maintain room illumination levels so that no more than 500 lux falls on the scanner and printer upper surfaces. Should the equipment main body or paper magazine be exposed to direct outside light or strong reflected light, use curtains or blinds to shield the equipment from such extraneous light.
REFERENCE: Two 40W fluorescent lamps provide 500 lux of illumination at a distance of 1 meter (3.3 ft.) NOTE: Excessively high indoor illumination levels will adversely affect the quality of finished prints.

CRT Monitor and Main Control Unit Handling Precautions
1.5.1
CRT Monitor
If anything unusual occurs during operation, such as smoke, strange noise, or peculiar odor coming from the equipment,disconnect the power plug immediately and contact your dealer. If you continue using the equipment in this condition, fire, electric shock or a breakdown may result.
N In case you spill liquid or drop something into the cabinet, disconnect the
power plug immediately and contact your local dealer. N Do not obstruct air vents. N Do not place the monitor close to magnetic fields.

Main Control Unit
To prevent damage to the system, abide by the following points. Do not install any application software without Fujifilms consent. Do not modify the data structure or data in the hard disk. Do not open the main control unit without the consent of a Fujifilm service representative. Do not add to or modify expansion cards or RAM cards. Do not reboot using the [Ctrl]+[Alt]+Del] keys.

Processing Chemical (CP-48S) Handling
1.6.1
Handling Precautions
Processing chemicals should be handled in accordance with the precautions indicated on the boxes and labels of the respective chemicals.

Protective Gloves
Safety Goggles
G Always wear protective gloves and safety goggles when handling chemicals with the above
indications. This is recommended even for chemicals without these indications. For greater protection, the use of a protective mask and apron is also recommended. G Wash hands thoroughly after handling processing chemicals or solutions.
G Any spilled chemicals should be wiped up immediately. G Use caution when mixing chemicals as certain mixtures may produce toxic gases. G If you get any chemical on your skin or in your eyes, immediately flush the affected part with
a great amount of water.

G If you swallow any chemical or get any in your eyes, seek medical attention immediately and
show the physician the information printed on the box or label of the chemical(s) involved.
G In some countries, chemicals carrying a poison label are required by law to be stored under
lock and key. You are responsible for ascertaining and complying with the regulations that apply in your country concerning the handling of poisonous substances. G Store chemicals in a safe place out of reach of children. G Waste solutions should be disposed of in accordance with the ordinances governing the handling of industrial waste products in your locale. The P1-R chemical in the CP-48S replenisher cartridge and the Component A of the P1 start-up chemical fall into the category of industrial waste. Should you have any questions concerning these chemicals, consult your service representative. Special note should be taken regarding the following properties of the CP-48S chemicals.

The P1-R chemical of the Replenisher Cartridge PC and Component A of the P1 Start-up Chemical These components contain P-phenylenediamine and may thus cause skin and eye irritation if improperly handled. They may be injurious to the health if swallowed. G The P2-RA Chemical of the Replenisher Cartridge PC and Component A of the P2 Start-up Chemical These components cause oxidation in metals. They may produce harmful ammonia gas if mixed with a chlorine-based bleach (hypochlorite) or an alkaline substance (P1-R or N1-RA). G The P2-RB Chemical of the Replenisher Cartridge PC and Component B of the P2 Start-up Chemical These components may produce harmful ammonia gas if mixed with a chlorine-based bleach (hypochlorite) or an alkaline substance (P1-R or N1-RA). They may also produce harmful sulfur trioxide gas when mixed with an acid. G FSC100 (Fuji Super Conditioner) This component contains dichloroisocyanurate and may thus produce harmful chlorine gas if mixed with an acid. It could be injurious to the health if swallowed.

It normally takes about one hour for the machine to warm up at the start of operation. For this reason, it is recommended that the weekly timer be used if the next start time is known in advance (see the Basic Operating Instructions).

IX240 Strip Film Printing

Cut IX240 film cannot be fed.

q Depress the inner end of the strip film guide.

w Insert the strip film into the strip film guide with its leader notch facing the opposite side.
The film is fed automatically and all frames are pre-scanned.

Back Printing Selection and Custom Setup Back Printing Display
Select back printing pattern on the 135/120 Back Printing or IX240 Back Printing screen. The custom setting numbers and back printing can be confirmed on the Back Print of Custom Setting [Display] screen.
q On the printing screen, select Printing (2) and Back Printing (2) on the menu bar.
The pull-down menu appears.
w Select 135/120, IX240 or Back Print of Custom Setting [Display].

The 135/120 Back Printing, IX240 Back Printing or Back Print of Custom Setting [Display] dialog box appears.
e 135/120: q Select the back printing contents from 1 to 6. w Select User ID or Private Character box and enter user ID or data using the numeric keys or full keyboard.
The maximum number of characters is 3 for the user ID and 35 for private characters.
r IX240: q Select a printing item from 1 to 4 of the printing items. w Select 1 or 2 for the date punctuation.

Front Printing
Follow this procedure to select front printing for IX240-size film. Print date/time or title data if recorded in the IX information on the film by the camera or another tool.

q On the printing screen, select Printing (2) and Front Printing (3) on the menu bar before inserting film.

w Select YES or NO for Date and Time Printing.

Normally select YES. If front printing is not desired, select NO.

Follow this procedure to perform center cropping with a reduction ratio of up to 98% of the standard magnification. Magnification up to 42 times is possible.
q On the printing screen, select Printing (2) and Cropping (7) on the menu bar.
The Center Cropping and ON pull-down menu appears.
w Select ON.
Magnification appears with each frame.
e Press the [F2] key.

Follow this procedure to print IX240-size reversal film using the NC240AG auto film carrier.

Follow this procedure to print 135-size and IX240-size black & white negatives using the NC135AG and NC240AG auto film carriers.

w Select Black & White in the Input Type box and click [OK].
Negative or B/W negative can be selected when the auto film carrier NC135AG is installed. Negative, Reversal or B/W negative can be selected when the auto film carrier NC240AG is installed.
The dialog box disappears. Nega on the left end of the printing status bar changes to B/W.
e Proceed with printing using the same procedure as for normal printing (see Basic Operating Instructions). r To return to color negative printing, select Scanner Op. (3) and Original Select (1) on the menu bar. Select Color Negative in the Input Type box and click [OK].

1-Frame Image Display Printing
Follow this procedure to change the image frame mode on the printing screen from high-speed or six-frame mode to one-frame mode.
q Press the [Shift] and [F4] keys at the same time.

Pressing these keys selects High-speed, 6frame or 1-frame. The image frame display mode changes from six-frame to one-frame to high-speed (three-frame).

Follow this procedure to display the sort data of the last order and change the sort number.
q On the printing screen, select Scanner Op. (3) and Sort Data Disp/Set(5) on the menu bar.

w To change the sort number, move the cursor to Sort No. Change, enter the new sort number and click [OK].
The sort number of the next order will be changed to new number.
If the preceding print order has not been sorted, the sort number cannot be changed. Press the [SORT] key before doing this procedure.

Unexposed Frame-Detection Level Setup
The detection level for unexposed frames can be selected. The unexposed frames are either printed in the index print or not, depending on the detection level.
q Select Scanner Op. (3) and Scanner Mode Set (6) on the menu bar.

w Click 135 Unexposed Frame Detect Level or IX240 Unexposed Frame Detect Level box and select 1, 2 or 3.
Unexposed frames are displayed on the monitor as the same condition as the index described below.

Monotone Printing
Monotone prints can be produced from either monotone or color films.
2.13.1
Making Monotone Prints from Monotone Film (for Color Development)

q Insert the monotone film into the auto film carrier.
The scanner reads the DX code of the film and selects the correct film channel automatically if the film is set up in a special film channel. If the DX code of the film, that is set up in a special film channel, cannot be read out, the message I-1453 Film bar-code cannot be read. Process continued. appears.

If this message appears, select a film channel by following the steps below. q Click Printing (2) and Special Film CH Select (5) on the menu bar.
The Special Film CH Selection dialog box appears.
w Select the film channel. e Click [OK].

The monotone images are displayed on the monitor screen.

Making Monotone Prints from Color Film

The correction list appears in the box.
t Select the desired correction in the box and click [OK].

The selected frame is printed with the monotone correction after you click [OK]. If the [Hold] button is clicked, the monotone correction specification is held for the following frames.

RP-tone Correction
RP-tone (Reversal Print-tone) prints can be made from a negative film by using the RP-tone correction mode.
q Insert the film into the auto film carrier. w Proceed with printing until the frame to be printed with RP-tone correction appears. e Select Image Correct (4) and RP Tone (4) on the menu bar.

Auto Correction ON/OFF
Sometimes auto color correction does not function for color-biased films or films taken under different kinds of light sources (fluorescent light, tungsten light, etc.). If this happens, select OFF for Auto Correction and correct the color of the image on the printing screen. Follow this procedure to turn auto correction ON or OFF.
q Insert the film into the auto film carrier. w Select Image Correct (4) and Auto Correct ONOFF (5) on the menu bar.
The Auto Correct OFF dialog box appears.
e To turn auto correction OFF, click [OK].

If the [Hold] button has been clicked, auto correction is not turned OFF until the [SORT] key is pressed or an auto sort is done.
r On the printing screen, select Image Correct (4) and Auto Correct OFFON (5) on the menu bar.
The Auto Correct ON dialog box appears.
t To turn auto correction ON, click [OK].

If the [Hold] button has been clicked, auto correction is not turned ON until the [SORT] key is pressed or an auto sort is done.

Paper Feed
This function feeds a single print length of unexposed paper. If accidental fogging has occurred on the paper, use this paper feed function to advance the fogged paper by the required number of print lengths.

The image can be printed on paper that does not match the selected size. For example, 89.0mm 127mm size print can be printed on 127mm width paper, but the print (127.0mm 127mm) has 19mm length white blanks on both sides.

3.5.3
Control Strip Storage and Handling Precautions
REFERENCE: A control strip is used for checking the performance of the processing solutions. The package contents consist of exposed but unprocessed paper strips, one reference strip (processed and used as a density reference), and a correction factor chart for the reference strip. Process a control strip and measure the reflection densities (R,G,B) with a densitometer to verify the processing solution performance.
IMPORTANT Place the control strips inside a plastic bag and store them in a freezer (-10C/14F or below). Storage at room temperatures will lead to deterioration in performance. Moisture condensation occurs if the control strips are processed immediately after they have been taken out of freezer. This may give rise to uneven development. Let the control strips sit for about one hour to bring it to room temperature. Do not open the folded end of the inner bag under any light. If you do, the control strips may become fogged and rendered useless.

Scanning Lamp/Reflector Replacement
If the scanning lamp burns out or output deteriorates, replace it as follows.
Wait until the scanning lamp cools down.
IMPORTANT To prevent fingerprints, always wear clean gloves when handling the lamp (bulb) and reflector.

When handling processing solutions, wear protective goggles, a rubber apron, rubber gloves, rubber boots and other protective gear, as appropriate, to prevent the any solution from coming in contact with the body. Always wash hands well after handling the processing solutions.
IMPORTANT If the circulation filters are not replaced, the circulation of processing solutions will be reduced. This will cause impaired temperature control and poor processing performance. To prevent processing solution contamination, replace the filters one at a time in the following order: P1-1 P1-2 P2-1 P2-2 PS1 PS2 PS3 PS4.

When an error message is displayed, proceed with the action indicated in the manual. If the machine does not return to normal operation after the action has been taken, consult your technical representative.
