Math Reflection

In math class, we have been working on rates and nutrition. The first problem that we had to do on Study Link 8.5, Calculating Calories from Fat, was to pick 5 foods. I chose orange juice, corn flakes, sugar (to go on the corn flakes), toast, and jam (to go on the toast). We had to put down on our sheet the total calories and the total calories from fat. The total calories from my breakfast were 345, and the total calories from fat were 10. After all of that, we had to find the percent of the total number of calories that came from fat, and my percent was 3%.The question was, does your lunch meet the recommendations to have 20-35% of the calories come from fat. My amount of fat did not meet the recommendations. I had over 35% of my calories come from fat. I had 39% of my calories come from fat, which is 4% over the recommendation. I learned how to watch the calories in the foods that I eat in the future. I think that it was harder at first, but once I started doing it on homework, it got easier. On most of my work, I got the desired results, like on my plan your lunch, all of my results were the ones desired, except my fat rate. With a 3% fat rate, on my work, that was WAY LESS than the desired results. I don't really have any questions because I get the system. When I am older, I will probably be on a diet, as most adults are, this is where this comes in handy. It is easy as a child to get the system ,but when I am an adult, it will probably be harder to watch my calories and burn fat. That is when I will use this method. In conclusion, I think that what I learned in 6th grade math class, calculating rates, will come in handy someday.
