FACULTY PROPOSED EVALUATION:

1

Rationale: I reorganized Biology I using a subject-oriented approach (rather than following text chapters)
and even more assignments to promote continual attention to the course. The approach was successful in
some ways (students grasped structure/function concepts better), but didnt provide adequate time for
molecular genetics. Significantly improved use of multimedia and on-line lessons in A&P series and
included more labs focusing on wellness (students liked this). Student-centered advising with rapid
response to student needs. Grew to be comfortable with Department Chair duties and contributed
significantly to department chairs team in scheduling, addressing plagiarism/cheating, and communicating
with faculty. Supported can-do attitude in Science and Technology Department: enabled Steve time to
work on Intel International Science Fair, helped broker Amy Horne completing CORE 205/206 instructor
assignment, supported flex hours, helped cover classes when colleagues could be involved in scholarly
work or service to discipline/community. Arranged some professional development/scholarly work, such as
serving as AP Biology Reader and reviewing Solomon text chapter. Fulfilled most essential lab manager
duties: keeping supplies stocked, ordering supplies/equipment, helping faculty find lab equipment/materials
(especially adjunct faculty). Promoted departmental field trips, which students laud heavily in senior exit
interviews. Supported science education by coordinating judging at Incline Elementary science fair and
judging at regional and international science fairs.
