Multi-Genre Project Definitions, Explanations, & Requirements Sonnet: a poem, properly expressive of a single, completethought, idea, or sentiment, of 14 lines,

with rhymes arranged according to ABABCDCDEFEFGG. Requirements: - 14 lines of a poem on one specific topic - ABABCDCDEFEFGG Rhyme Scheme Friendly Letter: a letter that usually concerns personal matters and is sent from one individual to another. Requirements: - Letter Elements: Greeting, Salutation, Date - Three complete paragraphs total Diary Entry: a daily record, usually private, especially of the writer's ownexperiences, observations, feelings , attitudes, etc. Requirements: - One diary entry from a first person point of view from a specific day or event. - Three complete paragraphs total Local or National News Report: a publication, usually issued daily or weekly, containing current news, editorials, feature articles, and usually advertising. Requirements: - One report on a specific event or topic written in a formal, reporting tone. - Three paragraphs total and one visual either found* or created related to the event. Obituary: a notice of a death, esp. in a newspaper, typically including a brief biography of the deceased person. Requirements: - Full name, age, date of birth, city and state of residence - Name of significant other (alive or deceased) - Activities: churches, clubs, organizations, volunteer groups, and hobbies - Vocation and places of employment, notable accomplishments, personality traits and anecdotes

Eulogy or Tribute: a speech or writing in praise of a person or thing, especially one recently dead or retired. Requirements: - Same requirements as the obituary, but at least two paragraphs of praise. Scientific Profile: A formal summary or analysis of data, often in the form of a graph or table, representing distinctive features or characteristics Requirements: - Three paragraphs worth of information on a selected topic. - At least one visual aid or info graphic, either created or found*. Talk Show Interview: A television or radio show in which noted people, such as authorities in a particular field, participate in discussions or are interviewed and often answer questions from viewers or listeners. Requirements: - One interview session with questions and answers from one person. - At least three paragraphs amount of interview questions and answers. Comic Strip or Graphic Novel Excerpt: a sequence of drawings in boxes that tell an amusing story, typically printed in a newspaper or comic book. Requirements: - At least six boxes with pictures, captions, and dialogue on a specific topic. - Consider using a free comic strip generator. Original Song Lyrics: a set of words that make up a song, usually consisting of verses and choruses. Requirements: - At least two verses and a refrain (lines repeated in the music) written by the student. - Approximately 30- 35 lines total. - One piece of cover art, created by the student. Public Service Announcement: messages in the public interest disseminated by the media without charge, with the objective of raising awareness, changing public attitudes and behavior towards a social issue. Requirements: - At least two paragraphs of an announcement on a particular issue. - At least three visual aids*, formatted in any way. *Any visual aids that are NOT created by the students must include source information.
