Overall Goal of Lesson: For students to use new vocabulary in their everyday writing. Instructional Objectives: The student will be able to use new vocabulary in their 500 word essay over suicide relating to The Awakening. Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) & ELPS: (typed out completely)

Modeling: I will find a word, define the word in context, and explain how I figured out the meaning of word using context clues. 8:10 Guided Practice: All the students will define #2 vocabulary and will use context clues to find the meaning, once all students are done we will discuss as a class. 8:15 8:50 8:55 Lesson Closure: Today we have defined 10 vocabulary words. Tomorrow we will use what we did today to begin a writing project. Assessment Methods/Strategies: Out the door ticket. Did you understand what we did today? Did you finish the assignment? Resources (supplies, equipment, software, etc.): The Awakening and a list of vocabulary words. Reflection: For my upper level kids this is a lower level assignment. There will be extensions for them. For my lower level kids, time will be of the essence. Independent Practice: The students will do 3-10 on their own.
