Significant concept(s)
What are the big ideas? What do we want our students to retain for years into the future?
This area on interaction students will contribute to the community by researching current or future technological developments events, and interview leading staff members.
Designers must take into consideration a range of views when developing a design and an objective best fit approach is required to communicate clearly.
Investigation:
The 5Ws of news-gathering - what, who, where, when, why - and how
Tasks :
1. Visit the TED website and search for a clip within the design or technology sections on the site for at least 3 clips on subjects that really interest you. List the key features and points of the talks. Identify one of the subjects that interests you the most. This will be the subject you will make a News Clip for. Give a brief description of this. Be prepared to discuss these. 2. Write a Design Context: Explain what function News Clips perform and the importance of unbiased reporting. 3. You will need to gather information, brainstorm the type of information and images you will need on the topic and how youll get them.
4. Write a survey/ questionnaire/ photos needed/ background information that you will use to interview others on the subject. 5. Document your results from task 4. 6. Critically examination of News Clips. Watch at least 3 short news clips of 2 minutes duration and list the website. Write a PMI on each: whats- positive, minus and interesting about the clip 7. After gathering information and critically examining several news clips add at least another 6 relevant Design Specifications that will define how a News Clip will be considered good.
Your Clients (each other) will review your News Clip and give you feedback, prepare a Feedback form for them to complete.
Design:
1. Develop a story board complete with key frames showing: time, information, sound, the progression, transitions, voice overlay, and camera angles, pictures. 2. Clearly described how the Design Specifications have been incorporated into the News Clip.
Plan:
1. For each shot in the storyboard list: equipment needs, camera angles, jobs and anything else relevant 2. Write a script for the News Clip, sound/ Music needed?
Create:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Make sure the sound on your clip is audible. Can you hear what you have recorded clearly? Make sure there is no background noise Create the news clip Film, create visual information to accompany your clip Interview fellow students, staff, gather together opinions to support your idea ( surveys) Edit your footage and information into a coherent and interesting news clip. Make sure it has pace. The editing of it will be very important. Summarise your findings: you must have this section in your news clip. What have you discovered?
Evaluation:
1. Self evaluation of film against each of the design specifications with explanation of how the News Clip met or rated against each one. 2. Obtained feedback from the Client and report on it. (Each other) 3. After the Self Evaluation and Feedback from the client make recommendations on how the News Clip could be improved in quality and content or developed further. Refer directly to the Design Specifications
