Life of Pi Unit Overview & Choice Class Time Assignments, Requirements and Expectations

For the rest of second semester, we will be reading Life of Pi and studying the issues, themes, motifs and allusions associated with the text. This semester, you have a lot more freedom and choice in your reading pace. As you read, please keep in mind that others are not necessarily at the same place you are in the book. Please be courteous and dont reveal the plot as it unfolds. If you have seen the movie, please remember the book is much different and quite a few events and ideas are covered in the book that the movie did not. So, guess which events and ideas I will be sure to include on quizzes . During our study of the novel, Life of Pi, you will have several independent assignments to complete. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will have class time to work on these assignments. You will be given a description of the assignments, along with a rubric and due dates as to when each of the assignments is due. Some assignments are the responsibility of the individual; some are the responsibility of your assigned group. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will be dedicated to reading and learning about topics related to the novel. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting the week of 3/17/14, you will choose from one or more of the choices below to work on during class time. You can schedule your time ahead, which might be advantageous since there are group assignments to complete, and you want to make sure your group members want to do group work on the same days. The netbooks will be in the room on these days and you will need to log in a Google Doc, what you completed for the hour. This documentation, counts towards your participation points for the hour (10 for use of time as observed by the teacher and 10 for documentation in google docs.) Of course, you will have to dedicate some time outside of class to work on these assignments too. GOOGLE DOCS LOG southlakeschroll.weebly.com
