Engine Interface Module

The Engine Interface Module is a sealed, engine mounted module that provides switching relays for the Starter Motor Solenoid, Glow Plug and Fuel Solenoid. Each of these circuits is protected with individual automotive fuses mounted in the module. Individual E!"s illuminate when each circuit is energi#ed in addition these E!"s greatly aid when fault finding. This module is mounted on the engine with anti$vi%ration mounts and is easily connected to the engine via loom plugs. &se of the EIM means that heavy currents such as Fuel Solenoid power are isolated from the control panel thus ena%ling individual protection of each of the circuits.

Functional Description There are four versions of the Engine Interface Module availa%le $ the '*6*. volt EIM S7 and the '*6*. volt EIM Plus. The EIM S7 is the %asic level module that provides all the switching functionality8 the EIM Plus provides the same functionality as the EIM S7 plus the additional feature of /verspeed Sensing and an /verspeed Trip 2d3uster. 2 magnetic pic)$ up on the engine flywheel housing provides the speed signal to the EIM Plus. 9hen an overspeed situation is sensed, the EIM Plus signals the *--', .--' or .--'E generator set control panel to stop the engine. The /verspeed Trip Point can %e easily set$up for '-: a%ove the normal operating speed. The overspeed feature on the EIM Plus, including the magnetic pic)up is mandatory for all the 2utostart control panels e;cept the 2ccess .--- <*--', .--' and .--'E=.

Status Indication E!"s on the module correspond to the Starter Motor Solenoid supply, the Glow Plug supply <where used= and the Fuel 1ontrol Solenoid supply. Each illuminates to show that the indicated circuit is energi#ed. 2 fourth E! <only operational on the EIM Plus= is used to set$up the /verspeed Trip Point. Starter Motor Solenoid (EIM SR) 9hen the >eyswitch is turned to start, a relay in the module is energi#ed providing power to the Starter Motor Solenoid. 9hen the >eyswitch is released the relay is de$energi#ed and disengages the starter motor. Starter Motor Solenoid (EIM Plus) !uring cran)ing the module receives a signal from the magnetic pic)$up. 9hen the signal rises a%ove '-+- ?#, the starter motor is disengaged and the EIM Plus switches a #ero volt signal to the generator set control panel to indicate that the engine is running. Should the cran) speed %e less than '* ?#, the module will only allow a cran) of -.4 seconds. If the engine speed falls %elow ,0- ?# <i.e. the engine has stopped= the EIM Plus will allow cran)ing only after a 0 second delay <loc)out= which compliments the generator set control panel"s , attempt cran). Glow Plug (pre-heat) 9hen the relay is energi#ed power is provided to the Glow Plug <where fitted=. Fuel Control Solenoid The generator set control panel energi#es a relay in the module that provides power to the Fuel 1ontrol Solenoid allowing fuel flow to the engine. !erspeed Signal (EIM Plus onl") The EIM Plus monitors the speed signal from the magnetic pic)$up. If the engine speed rises a%ove a certain pre$setta%le value, the module sends a #ero volt signal to the generator set control panel to activate the /verspeed Fault circuitry. The /verspeed Set Point is factory set at 00?# for 0-?# sets and 44?# for 4-?# sets. This can %e ad3usted using the ad3ustment screw accessed through the hole %eside the /verspeed Set$&p E!. 9hile the engine is running at the rated speed <'0-- rpm for 0-?# or '(-- rpm for 4-?#= the ad3ustment screw should %e ad3usted until the /verspeed Set$&p E! 3ust goes out. This sets the overspeed value at '-: a%ove the speed at which the generator set is operating.

Safet" #Rela"$ Feature The EIM S7 and EIM Plus provide a safety chec) for any damaged contacts <i.e. welded contacts= using a @safetyA relay. 9hen the emergency stop push%utton on the generator set control panel is pushed the EIM module automatically chec)s Fuel 1ontrol Solenoid and Starter Motor Solenoid to see if they are welded shut. 2 dimly lit E! on the module indicates the contacts are damaged and the module should %e replaced.
