Guideline for the Development of Western Style Music


Activity Management for the Improvement of High School

TITLE

ABSTRACT
The education of secondary school often focused on the importance of student
development activities or community activities. Western music was one of activities which
was held for student support and improvement purpose and the community was served by
using the various types of international music. Most schools which participated in such
activities proceeded according to the variance of different factors therefore the outcomes
were produced differently. The purposes of this research were to study the problem of
student development activities in Matthayomsuksa school under the jurisdiction of Ubon
Ratchathani Provincial Educational Area Office, Region 1 and to find the way of activity
development in term of western music in the school under the jurisdiction of Ubon
Ratchathani Provincial Educational Area Office, Region 1. The sample group of this
research consisted of 30 personals relating in the western music activity in the school under
the jurisdiction of Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Educational Area Office, Region 1, academic
year 2008 by using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool was the survey
questionnaire and interview. The statistics for data analysis included percentage, mean and
standard Deviation.
The major finding revealed the following :
1. The overall of personals relating to the western music activity in the school
facing the problem of western music activity were at a much level (mean = 3.96) and when
considered in each factor, the problems was occurred at a much level, with the greatest

mean was the administration of western music activity (mean = 4.19), followed by the
evaluation of activity and operational report (mean = 4.02) and the factors and rationale of
western music types (mean = 4.13).
2. The development guideline of western music activity for developing the
Mathayomsuksa students under the jurisdiction of Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Educational
Area Office, Region 1 were as the following : 1) Multimedia was the necessary tool for
encouraging the students to gain the experience certainly and better learning way, 2) the
school must announce and praise the students who played the role of music activity student
with sacrifice and gave the honor certificate in terms of western music skill in the end of
the year or the graduation day as suitable, 3) the students works should be exhibited to
the public, 4) the phases and programs should be conducted systemically and formally
according to the regulation of school, it might be participate with the public or private
activities which involved in the tradition and culture of community and 5) the schedule and
procedure of learning should be done properly relating the specific types of activities and
the musical knowledge should be accepted widely and it could be inspected.
In conclusion, from the study of western music activity in the secondary school, it
realized that the problem awareness and the way of western music activity development in
Mattayomsuksa school were better, the data of this study could continue to improve the
western music activities of Mattayomsuksa school and it also was useful for increase the
skill of western music to the students in order to attain the learning objectives and role of
school relating the community service in service area in future.
