SPM 433 Sport Management Internship

Your Name: Richard Daniels Name of Internship Site: William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA City & State: Winston-Salem, North Carolina Semester & Year of Internship: Spring 2014 Overall, how would you grade the quality of your internship experience: A B C D F Briefly explain why you gave the site this grade? I gave the YMCA an A just because of the way they treated me overall. My site supervisor gave me the leisure to choose my hours as well as my duties, which was awesome. Also, the facility has amazing features, such as its 3-court gymnasium, which gave the kids plenty of space to do multiple activities. Please briefly describe your anticipated projects and activities the beginning of the internship. Did you get to participate in these activities as expected? If not, please tell us why and what activities you were assigned to do instead. At the beginning of the internship I have did not anticipate many projects but I knew that there would be plenty of activities. We did various activities ranging from sports to arts & craft, to capture the flag to taking nature trails, to taking field trips to places such as the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. I got to participate in all the activities and I even constructed some of the activities myself. In order to assist the Department with making recommendations to future interns, we request your assistance with evaluating the quality of your internship experience at the site you selected. How prepared would you say you were for the work you were assigned to do at your internship site? Very Prepared Somewhat Prepared Not Prepared At All

How often do you feel your internship supervisor showed support and interest in your education and internship progress? All of the time Most of the time Some of the time Never

What would you say was the best part of your internship? I would say the best part of my internship was building relationships with the kids. These kids barely knew me and by the end of the summer I was someone that the kids could come and talk to about almost anything. Also, the field trips were fun because you got to see the counselors and kids enjoy themselves with the other YMCAs that joined as well.

What was the worst part of your internship? I would have to say the worst part of my internship was when we had to be outside all day. I love to play sports dont get me wrong, but when its 90 degree whether outside you get all hot and sweaty easily. Also, the kids get very agitated when it gets hot and that causes them to complain the entire time instead of participating in the activities.

What is your recommendation of this site for future interns? Strongly Recommend Recommend with Reservations Do Not Recommend
